Run to Uganda was the brainchild of Paul Rejda and Jono Becker. This page was created to track the progress of this little adventure.
Conceived in 2013, the main goal of the Run was to raise funds to build a school for Calo Me Lare, an orphanage built by Project Hope Worldwide (PHW), in Lira, Uganda. To accomplish our monetary objective, we recruited a few people to help with some of the fundraising logistics. We also recruited a running team of all skill levels as well as non-runners to help promote the fundraiser. Our team beg
an logging weekly miles ran with the goal of reaching 8,225 miles - the distance from Tulsa to Lira. After over a year of promoting, advocating, and running, we actually ran well over 8,225 miles and raised over $30,000. Run to Uganda has been on hold since the spring of 2014; however it has recently been revived through the passion and inspiration of Bailey Leuellen. Bailey has a real desire to help the orphans of Calo Me Lare. She is currently sponsoring a girl named Juliet, and has influenced the sponsorship of 2 additional children. Bailey also has an adventurous spirit, and in the true spirit of the Ultra-runner, Bailey a previous non-runner with no real running or racing experience, has decided to run the Post Oak 50K (NOT EASY). Well this is the perfect combination for Run to Uganda, and Bailey has enthusiastically taken up the torch. The Run to Uganda team will be attempting to raise $10,000 and secure sponsorship for 3 additional orphans by race day, 2/28/2016. Please help change the world by changing an orphan’s life.
