Germany has much more thorough driver training than California requires. From first-hand experience, the result is a driving environment that is much more predictable and safe, even though much of their highway system has no speed limits.
We teach more than the DMV requires because we have a passion for driving excellence.
Give space to the big rigs around us on the road. Don't tailgate, don't cut in front, don't stay in the blind spot on their side, flash your headlights to help them to change lanes in front of you. The laws of physics don't favor passenger cars.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a safe drive!
As we approach some (hopefully) rainy days, here are some important tips about driving in the rain from the CHP and media in Northern California:
* Headlights on if wipers need to be on
* Reduce speed by 10-15%
* Increase following distance (3 seconds dry, 4-5 seconds wet)

As part of our "GREEN Teen" commitment to environmentally-friendly training cars, we have reserved two Tesla Model 3s and hope to have them in service within two years. Since we put 25-40K miles on our cars per year, it's great to know how durable they are based on this Tesla taxi.

Here's How A Tesla Taxi Held Up After 100,000 Miles Christian Roy of Quebec City has been using his Tesla Model S as a taxi for over two-and-a-half years, accumulating over 100,000 treacherous taxi miles. How did this high-tech electric car stand up to that much cab abuse?
Learning to drive defensively is essential to staying safe on today's roads. The most serious type of crash is a head-on collision, and another tragedy occurred last night. San Diego's CW6 television reached out to our Chief Instructor for advice for drivers. The most important factor is to always stay alert to have the maximum time to react.

The governor just signed a new law that prohibits hand-held use of a cell phone while driving. The law takes effect on January 1, 2017. It now includes navigation functions and taking photos while driving, which weren't expressly prohibited before. Distracted driving is a leading cause of crashes. Stay focused out there!

After years of declining, the number of fatalities on American roads has begun to increase. Up 9% nationwide, up 31% in California. Cars are safer and trauma care is better, so why is this happening? Distracted driving is one of the main causes.
The dangerous trends in this article deserve more focus, just like safe driving requires being focused. We will make sure that the new drivers we teach are aware of the risks as part of the good habits we instill in our lessons.
What’s Driving the Massive Surge in Traffic Deaths? For the better part of a year, Mark Rosekind has sounded the alarm on the rising carnage on America’s roads. In speeches delivered before audiences of automotive executives, transportation officials, and safety advocates, the administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has wa...

Some parents think it's easy to teach their new driver. But being able to DO something isn't the same as being able to TEACH it. We have the experience of thousands of students and techniques proven over several years to keep this from happening.

Some good tips for experienced drivers. These points are covered for our Drivers Education classroom students in session 1 of 4. On the ride home from class, we urge them to mention two points to their parents: blue reflectors are for fire hydrants, and that yield signs aren't yellow any more (white with a red border now). Two examples of what they learned in class (and a way for kids to educate their parents).

These Little Known Rules of the Road Help You Drive Smarter If you’re going to drive, you have to follow the rules, and most of us are familiar with the basics. However, there are a handful of lesser-known road rules. Maybe you learned them in driver’s ed, but forgot them, because they’re not as important as, say, stopping at a red light. Still, they’ll help...
Not all driving schools are the same. Here's a training car from another school ahead if us. Can you see the poor examples they're setting?
* Distracting air freshener hanging from the mirror. Bad enough for an experienced driver, interferes with vision skills for a new driver.
* Driver's hands at 10 and 2. Major injury risk if the airbag deploys.
* Instructor's notebook on the dashboard. Reduces vision (reflection) and a potential hazard as a loose object in a sudden move or collision.
That school should know better! These are lifelong skills being taught. We take our role very seriously.
We offer specialized lessons working with disabled drivers. Our driving rehab instructor Jim Gleason is educating stroke victims in the Comebacker's Club today
We teach more than new teenage drivers, including seniors and drivers with new physical challenges. And we also review the latest techniques with experienced drivers who will drive passenger vans with the most precious cargo of all: children.
EVERYONE needs to learn how to drive at some point!
(But it's easier to start out in one of our training cars)
Good driving habits today were good driving habits in the past. Despite not wearing shoulder belts and poor hand position, this vintage driver training video still has good advice. And the awful narration and horrible graphics are fun to watch.

Our newest Green Teen Driving Machine is this 2016 Toyota Corolla. It's very safe, with a 5 star crash protection rating and 10 air bags. And it's very green, achieving 38 mpg on the freeway and emitting very low CO2. Some of our North County Students will get to start their driving journey in our new car. Maybe that will include you?
Now that we're deep into El Niño weather, it's helpful to review some tips for driving safely in the rain. It's mostly common sense, but we've added what we teach our new drivers to our "Driver Tips" page:

We teach more than brand-new teenage drivers. These drivers spend their days in passenger vans shuttling children. Our fleet training program brings the latest safe techniques to experienced drivers too.

Cars Become Target for Identity Theft as Shopping Hits Dashboard Hackers can already take control of a car. And as vehicles become rolling shopping malls, cybercriminals will have an opportunity to sn**ch your identity, too.
Just-released statistics show a bad trend for US drivers. In the first half of 2015, traffic fatalities are up 14% and serious injuries have increased by 30%. After several years of decreases, we may be headed toward the worst year since 2007. Lower gas prices have increased driving, but the fatality rate has increased more than miles driven. An early explanation may be a major increase in distracted driving.
Put down your phone; that call or text can wait.
