Creating new and fun Halloween assignments can be pretty scary, but we’ve got you covered. We put together writing lessons that can help your ghouls–errr, students, build a scary story using Newsela content. The best part is, once they’ve completed their story, they can submit it to our Scary Story Contest for a chance to be published on Newsela.

Help your students learn about the key elements of writing a scary story and develop the necessary skills to create the very best scary story with suspense, descriptive writing, plot devices, and more.
Lesson 1: The Elements of Horror - Discover what makes a scary story scary.
Lesson 2: Theme Thunderstorm - Brainstorm conflicts and themes.

Today is Mental Health Awareness Day! Thank you, Mrs. Anderson, for talking to our Middle Schoolers about safeguarding our mental health! This is some of the advice shared by students and teachers. Please feel free to print or post this so you have this any time you need it!

Our virtual students had their first field trip of the year today! The whole school read Wild Robot last year so today they went to the movies! Thank you Cinemark for the private showing and snacks.

It's World Space Week! Our art teacher, Mr. Trax, will be leading our scholars in artistic endeavors that revolve around space!
