Asthma patients who smoke may benefit from COPD treatment SAN ANTONIO — The lungs of patients with asthma who smoke begin to resemble those of patients with COPD, which may require changes in treatment, Brian Bizik, MS, PA-C, said at the 16th Annual Allergy, Asthma & Immunology CME Conference.“They have lots of remodeling,” Bizik, imm...
The Biden administration said Thursday that it had reached an agreement with drugmakers to lower prices on the 10 costliest prescription drugs under Medicare.
It's part of the federal government's first-ever drug pricing negotiations, a cost reduction it claims could help ease the financial burden on the estimated 1 in 7 older adults in the U.S. struggling to pay for their medications.
The prices won't take effect until 2026, but the measure is a landmark for Medicare. The federal government has never been able to directly haggle with drugmakers over the prices of their prescription drugs.

Does exercise trigger an asthma attack for you? 🏃♀️
For some athletes with asthma, it can help to have a longer warmer and longer cool down.
Talk to your Dr and see if you should pre-medicate before exercise (use your Albuterol 20 minutes before you exercise.) Everyone is different, so find out what's right for YOUR body! 🫁
The best way to remember how to use a dry powder inhaler (DPI) is to "hold it like a cheeseburger and suck like a milkshake!" 🍔🥤
Since DPI's don't have propellant, YOU have to inhale deeply and quickly to get the powder out
Some people don't like DPI's and like metered dose inhalers better. Talk to your Dr to see what's right for you! 🫁
There is no such thing as a "hypoallergenic dog" - that myth was created by breeders to sell more dogs (surprise!)
People are allergic to dog saliva, dog urine, and skin dander. And since dogs have all 3 of these......they are NOT hypoallergenic.
Don't believe me? Take it from at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Read his article 👇👇👇

One of the first signs of an asthma attack is a cough 🫁
Anytime one of my kids would start coughing, my heart would start pounding! That usually meant they were getting sick and it was going to be time for the nebulizer
It’s Back to School with Asthma! 🚌
Having raised 3 kids with asthma (inherited from me), I know the importance of collaborating with school staff, the school nurse, pediatrician and asthma doc 🫁
A few thoughts: http://asthmamomlife.blogspot.com/2024/08/back-to-school-with-asthma.html?m=1
Are you over age 50? Have you had a colonoscopy? 💩
In my profession of Public Health, we don’t recommend preventative screenings “for funsies”. 🙄
Screenings can save your life. Literally.
Don’t leave loved ones behind because you don’t believe in life saving screenings. 🪦💀Ask me how I know….

Controller (or maintenance) inhalers work like an anti-inflammatory to keep the swelling down in your lungs 🫁
They are usually prescribed morning and night. They can cause oral thrush, so make sure you rinse your mouth out and spit the water out. I also brush my teeth and tongue after I use my inhalers, to help prevent oral thrush
Using my anti-inflammatory inhalers every day helps me need less albuterol!

As you’re shopping for school supplies….get the good stuff!
The main airways in the lungs (bronchi), branch off into smaller and smaller passageways. Imagine an upside down tree, where the branches get smaller and smaller
The smallest airways (bronchioles) lead to tiny air sacs called alveoi (the small circles in graphic.) That's where the air exchange takes place to help you breathe 🫁
The Slovakia swimmer had an asthma attack and did not have her inhaler in her gear. Please remember to ALWAYS carry your inhaler - asthma attacks can happen at any time 😖😮💨🫁 https://www.espn.com/olympics/story/_/id/40704937/slovakia-tamara-potocka-collapses-200-meter-im

Best part of the Olympics? Hands down it’s Snoop. I wasn’t a fan before, but I am now!
Listening to the Ohio Society for Respiratory Care, look at one of the common causes of respiratory failure - asthma! 😲 Years ago, I had a son in ICU with asthma and pneumonia, and the staff was fighting for him to prevent respiratory failure. Still brings back bad memories
Short walk after the Ohio Society for Respiratory Care conference. I give my presentation tomorrow, but have learned so much from another profession

A bronchodilator (your reliever/rescue inhaler) can help relax the muscles around the airways - which widens your airways so you can breathe easier 🫁
This is only a Bandaid approach and will help you breathe better until you get the swelling down in your lungs 😮💨
True!
Do you have severe asthma? Has your Dr tried everything to help your asthma, but you still struggle?
Some people with asthma need a biologic medicine, it works at the cellular level to block the molecules that cause swelling in the lungs 🫁
Although the injections are pricey, you can apply for co-pay help. Biologics were literally the only medicine that kept my son alive and out of the hospital (after 8 hospitalizations for asthma - 2 of those were in the ICU.) 🚑👩⚕️🥺
🚨Recall alert! 🚨
Amid Deadly Listeria Outbreak, Boar’s Head Recalls Some Deli Meats The U.S. Department of Agriculture is investigating whether Boar’s Head meat sliced at deli counters has played a role in an outbreak of listeriosis that has caused two deaths.
Each person with asthma is different, so their asthma attack may look different - but these are the most common symptoms 🫁
Sometimes you may need a few puffs of your albuterol (reliever inhaler) but sometimes you may need a little extra help at the hospital 👩⚕️🚑
Are you ready to watch the in ? Did you know that the most common chronic condition among Olympic athletes is asthma? They also have double the rates of asthma! Read more: http://asthmamomlife.blogspot.com/2024/07/how-many-paris-olympic-athletes-have.html?m=1
Early childhood infections increase the likelihood of asthma 🫁
