But your kids were always dressed in the most stylish new clothes.
We all have our own unique birth experience but diapers, and lots of them, connect us all!
With the cold weather upon us, it may be difficult to come up with ways to get active or stay active but exercise is important for a healthy pregnancy.
Here are just a few benefits of exercising during pregnancy:
• Improve energy and mood
• Prevent constipation
• Help you sleep better
• Can help reduce gestational diabetes risk
• Promote strength and endurance
• Reduced risk of having a Cesarian section
Here are a few ideas to help you stay active during the winter:
• Join a prenatal yoga class
• Go for walks outside until the snow comes. Dress warm and get your partner to come with you. Try mall walking when it gets too cold or icy outside.
• Take the stairs
• Download a prenatal workout app to do exercise at home
If you were exercising before pregnancy, most exercise can be continued but it is always a good idea to talk to your healthcare provider and listen to your body.
This is a mindfulness technique that I learned in my training. I use it every day when I meditate and I teach it to clients all the time. It helps you to acknowledge what is happening around you but not get hooked into thinking about what that means. You can stay present and grounded. It’s helpful for labour especially when changing environments (like going from home to hospital). It’s also helpful for times when you can’t control or change your circumstances- I use it often when I’m driving and stuck in traffic. A client that I taught this too this past week just reached out and let me know she used it this morning when her toddler was having a meltdown. She was able to be present with him and not get frustrated or triggered by his behaviour. . . I’ll be teaching this and more at my upcoming Birthing From Within class at the beginning of June. DM me if your interested
Happy Mothers Day to my amazing Mom who is so kindly looking after my kids today and tonight, so I can have a Mother’s Day to myself. I would not be the person I am if I didn’t have this incredible woman to show me the way. Love you mom and thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
I can barely believe that this sweet, funny, brave, and kind boy of mine is 9 today. The irony that he was born on international Midwifery day is not lost on me. I can still feel his tiny body on my chest when he was first born and now he fills my phone with selfies and cracks one liners that exasperate me and make me laugh like nothing else. Thanks for making me a mama one last time Elijah! Love you to the moon and back x1000
“Women, don’t ever apologize for your behaviour or choices during birth. When you OWN your experience and take pride in your journey, you help other women do the same thing. No matter how you did it, you just brought a human being into the world! The world should be kneeling at your feet.” — Lauralyn Curtis
This ⬆️ is everything to us as doulas. OWN your birth, you brought a HUMAN earth-side!! (Happy early International Women's Day!!)
If someone had told me at the beginning of the pandemic that my business would flourish I would never have believed it! We supported 65 families in 2021. I am proud and grateful to my incredible staff and to all of the amazing clients who have trusted us to walk with them on their new parent journey. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Happy Friday! Treated myself today to a new hat, massage with at followed by tea and treats from It’s been a crazy week and cheers I needed this!

Every child matters. I am sad, angry, disgusted and ashamed to be Canadian.
First dose
I had a total emotional reaction in line - balled like a baby. I feel so grateful for all the people who are working so hard for us to have this. And I think it was just an abundance of unexpected Covid grief that had me cry so much. The nurse got me a privacy screen so I could finish crying before she poked me LOL
I also recognize how incredibly privileged I am to get this. My heart aches for other parts of the world, especially India. Please if you can donate to MSF, Red Cross, or other organizations that are helping there. CanadaHelps.org is a great website with a list of organizations you can donate to that are all helping there. I donated $200 today. If each of us could give something when we get our vaccine, that will make a difference to other parts of the world who need and deserve this too.
Fitting that it is world Doula day and I just received this email from a client who did a private session with me as well as took my Birthing again class. This woman had a really tough first birth, and we were able to work through that in little time that we had. Clearly the work that we did together made a huge difference and has in this second experience.
Being a Doula is passion work, soul work, and deeply intuitive. I love meeting people where they are at, and helping them find the tools within themselves to get to where they want to be in their birth and postpartum experience. Receiving this email today, is another confirmation of that work.
During the pandemic Doula Support is needed more than ever. Families need support during this tough time. My team and I have made many changes to the way that we practice to be able to offer support safely, and help our clients to still feel deeply cared for.
Truth! During this time I keep feeling lost - I think this is what happens when you can no longer do the activities that define you - however seeing this flipped the script for me. My love had helped my children, my clients and even some of my friends did through this time. Who had been anchored by your love in the last year? . . . .
Happy International Womns Day! To all the nasty womn out there! May we grow them, may we raise them, may we be them! .
When it’s been a tough week breakfast in bed with a good book is the healer
Everyone’s mental health has been a bit s**t for the past year. And honestly I don’t know if I can offer up anything beyond let’s be gentle. I’m especially trying to be gentle to myself and my kids.
If there is one consistent feeling I’ve struggled with in the last year of March, it has been weariness.
Feeling mentally, physically, emotionally exhausted. I have not felt this all the time, but I have felt it consistently, and more than ever before.
Our brains are dealing with so much in this time of uncertainty, and weariness is how my brain has handled it.
My biggest struggle with in this feeling has been to recognize it, and instead of pushing through it, respect it and rest. The Voice in my head that speaks to myself has not always been kind this year, when I push through, that voice has become cruel. When I get the sufficient rest I have the capacity to handle things better, and the voice in my head is kinder to me.
What have you noticed as a consistent feeling in the last year? What has helped you to cope?

I have been so looking forward to being a guest on Sarah Bester’s Shine Mama podcast - truly a highlight of 2021 so far! Sarah features local mamas who are powerhouses and to be included amongst her list of guests is a huge compliment. Please have a listen and let me know what you think ❤️ Posted • What comes up for you when you tell your birth story? 🤰
My latest podcast episode with Doula, Parenting Educator, and Birth Coach is a testament to the beauty and miracle of the birth experience. Bronwyn is so knowledgeable and passionate about birth and everything surrounding it that I left the conversation truly wanting to have another baby just so I could hire Bronwyn to support me through it. (well, almost!) But I also learned that for some women who have experienced birth trauma, the re-telling of their birth story (over and over) can be re-traumatizing, and the effects can be felt for months and even years after the birth. This is why her support doesn’t end once the baby is born, and can include birth healing coaching to deal with this trauma.
This is a deep and heart-opening conversation about the joys and challenges of motherhood and I know it is going to touch everyone who listens. 💗 You can find the podcast on iTunes podcasts
