Art + Design =
Even as a young child, I have always been fascinated with drawing. I would spend long hours drawing characters from my best loved comic and colouring books. My yearning to draw life-like subjects took me on a self-taught journey of intense observation and learning from master artists. I would glean much valuable skills from watching other fellow artists perfecting their craft. Eventually I designe
I spent the evening getting my art and gift shop items ready for drop off this weekend for the Sooke Fine Arts show.
The show starts July 27 and runs until August 5.
Sooke Fine Arts Society | Vancouver Island’s premier adjudicated art show Vancouver Island’s longest-running juried fine art show, and the region’s premier summer arts event. The Show provides the opportunity for the finest artists from Vancouver Island and BC’s coastal islands to showcase and sell their work.
I am not certain the artist's name but this is quite stunning and creepy at the same time.
What are your thoughts?

Fingers crossed...wish me luck.🤞

Apart from a few tweaks here and there...I think this one is done. Medium is graphite on 18" x 14" Canson paper. The piece is a reflection on life's challenges that all of us may find ourselves battling where we have a choice to either "sink or swim" and so I named this piece, 'That Defining Moment'.
Please let me know what you think. Leave a comment if you so choose.

New sketch started. Still a work in progress.
Back working on this one today. It's still a work in progress but getting close to completion. My focus today was the legs, hooves, and defining the muscle shape and form. The next stage is tweaking the rest of the details of the painting, especially he gate. Stay tuned for further updates on this one.

Stopped by Fairy Lake today to grab another photo of this little tree.
So I've had a few inquiries about the momma goat I'm painting, what was the outcome and was momma and babies ok.
We visited the Beacon Hill Park Petting Zoo today and I found her again...and yes, she is pregnant again, due May 1st. Her name is Tinkerbell. So in the photo I took that I'm using for the painting, she was pregnant with two babies, which explains her size. Speaking to the zoo manager today...she said all went well for her and the babies. I showed her photos of my paintings of the goats and she was plesantly surprised and really liked them. Today when I approached Tinkerbell, I wanted to get another photo of her in all her grandness but I'm not certain if she was all that thrilled about having her photo taken by me again but at least she was much more comfortable than the last time I saw her.
Keep smiling Tinkerbell 💕
A day off the regular, 9-5 work day meant time for some fun. I worked on this one again. It's coming along nicely! Let me know what you think!
New sketch started...work in progress. Keep checking back later for updates.

A Momma's Love ~ oil on canvas by Sherie Welsford
Spent some time working on this one this afternoon. My focus was on the face and ears. Still very much a work in progress.
It has been quite the year! I am looking forward to the successes that 2024 will bring!!

As the clock ticks down to midnight, here's wishing you and yours a very happy and safe New Year. Here's hoping and wishing that 2024 brings peace to the World. 🧚♀️🎉☮️
Sometimes, I find the most challenging part of the painting is mixing the palette. This afternoon, I had to totally scrap some of what I had mixed and start again. I'm still relatively new to oil painting, and I just don't do it often enough yet to mix my palette quickly. But after the delay, trying to get my palette just right, I managed to get some work done today.
Fun with Photoshop today. I created a posterized, vector image of my favourite little person.
Managed to steal a few hours to work on this piece today. I almost completed the first pass of the momma goat. The goal is to lay down the tones with the first pass, and then the next layers (passes) are used to get into the details. Still a work in progress...but I'm happy with it and having fun.
