Honored to share and hold space with our dear friends in from Brasil and California (todos brasileros) in this intimate ceremonial song share. Very excited to join the San Francisco Symphony in 2 weeks to bring Gabriel Kahane's beautiful*, but more importantly reflective of the artist's job to shine light on the realities and incongruencies of society piece to life. *emergency shelter intake form is also quite beautiful.
Not every composer would ride Amtrak for two weeks collecting oral histories in the early days of the Trump era. Or forsake the internet for a year as an experiment to learn how we connect with one another. Or do a deep dive into the bureaucracy undergirding our country’s housing crisis.
But Gabriel Kahane is not every composer.
Equally at home writing and performing sophisticated pop songs and classical works that marry the witty and profound, Kahane is a keen observer of the human experience. The San Francisco Symphony presents Kahane's emergency shelter intake form, a song cycle exploring inequality through the lens of housing and homelessness, Feb 2–3.
