A generous second ChessBase report on our Festival by GM Alejandro Ramirez!
Hawaii GM Challenge (Part 2/2) The string of activities in Hawaii left the players with almost no time to do anything. Once the GM Challenge kicked off, it was clear that Waikiki Beach would have to wait until the tournament ended. Sam Shankland went into day two with a one point lead, but he was unable to keep it until the end,…

Hawaii GM Challenge (Part 1/2) Hawaii is full of possibilities, from hiking and snorkling to the ever popular whale watching - which we were able to attend thanks to the organizer's efforts - but at some time in every chess festival the main event begins. The Hawaii GM Challenge pitted together three strong grandmasters and a wil…

In between the days of the Hawaii Grandmaster Challenge was the Hawaii International Open Blitz tournament, where I shared first with GM Ramirez with 10.5/12. Gotta love USCF rapid/blitz ratings- without them I never could have produced a 1.5/2 upset playing up 397 points!
This morning started with a fast-paced Blitz tournament with no less than 7 GMs and 3 IMs mixed in with the 56 player group; which meant for plenty of opportunity for players to get paired up with titled players for some fast action blitz games.
