Feel like we've been saying "Hip Hop is in a bad place"... since the 2000's

I’m grateful for the opportunities I’m walking into as 2023 begins to draw to a close. A lot of what’s going on is behind the scenes, for both myself, and in support of artists I really rock with.

Some of these opportunities are behind the lens, some in front of the lens, and some are major changes with my music.

Still underground. Still Lyricism.

I've been working behind the lens of a camera since filming rap videos and MMA fights in Boise back in the 00's. I've definitely begun to see my horizon open up in front of me.

I make music, photography, and my creative work in general because I love it. All of it. I've given most of my life to music and photography, with no ask for myself, so If you're here to see or hear it, thank you!

I have been making hip hop music since 1997. I’ve had two stage names in that time. I created the worlds first online battle league platform in rapmusic-com. I became a force in developing a credible underground hip hop scene in Boise, ID in the 2000s and early 2010s.

I released 3 collaboration projects while in Boise to promote the most talented hip hop artists to represent the sound of our scene. I brought about a dozen songs to FM Radio from 2001-2013… This work led on to arena shows, Vans Warped Tour, as well countless other shows with amazing underground artists from all over North America. I think I had something like a 50 show summer in 2005.

All that to say, in all of my years, and experience in underground hip hop, and living out basically every dream a young lyricist could have… I’ve taken a couple long breaks from releasing and performing my music, basically to the point of not existing. But I never stopped writing.

I never put out a solo album or EP, I threw up some collaborations and a few solo tracks on Spotify a while back, but it’s not an album. Even gave a run at my joint last fall, but I just don’t love the song.

For the first time, I’m genuinely inspired. I’m finally writing at the level I’ve been striving for since I was a child studying rap songs and rhyme schemes.

Side note: the ‘good enough’ threshold in my lyricism, just f**kin’ isn’t the same as your generic rapper.

A Dice One solo record is officially in the works, this is not a drill. This is not a test. I’m cooking a flavor of hip hop that I am very proud to bring to you. I hope you’re here for it!

I’m sure a some people would be saddened to know that, I’ve never actually been completely happy with a single song of mine to date… not one. It took me a long time, and a ton of effort to arrive at this point.

The song I am writing tonight gives me full body chills and goosebumps as I record, and listen to the playback.

So, I’m in Denver, and noticing a lot of the Bronco fans got a lot to say, even with their losing ass team.

Twice now I’ve seen the at a special Event. My first was alongside Sue the T-Rex at the Field Museum in Chicago, after the Blackhawks claimed the Trophy. I was just there to show my kid some dinosaur bones. Such a cool experience!

Then, this evening the Las Vegas Golden Knights hung their Championship banner in a Ceremony before the season opener.

There’s something missing in independent and underground hip hop.

I feel like I’m pushing my creativity to levels I have never seen before. Innovation takes a lot of silent work. I got some wild s**t coming up soon, for any of you that might be waiting, or watching and hating 🫡🖕

I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to learn and create create music throughout my life. I have an album I’m almost done with, fully produced, written, and recorded by Yours, Truly.

I’m not taking a traditional release path for this project, the song will be available on SoundCloud and Bandcamp for those who would like to support with a donation for digital download. I’ll share snippets on Instagram but you gotta hear the second verse tho.
