Local farmer in Paarl get shot at 2 times at the same day.

09 November 2017. Paarl Rural area.

A know and loved Paarl fruit farmer got shot at two times at the same day by a group of fruit-thieves just outside his house in the orchard.

At around 07.00 a group of man countered the farmers security guards, protecting the precious fruits still hanging on the trees awaiting harvest.

A radio call to the farmer proved nearly fatal as the culprits opened fire with a self made gun.
Unfortunately for the culprit, but luckely for the farmer, the self made gun exploded as it fired.

The culprits, now without a weapon, fled the scene, leaving the farmer and his security guards in disbelief. The emergency call was also taken by the Drakenstein Farm-watch, who send two armed teams to assist. Upon arrival the culprits were already gone.

A police case for attempted murder was made by local police.

A few hours later however, the group returned and again the guards and workers were threatened to leave the area "or else".

Again the farmer arrived minutes later, to be confronted by at least 3 man of which one opened fire on the farmer.
Luckely the shots did not injure the farmer or his workers.

Already allerted because of the gunshots, the farmwatch responded again with many teams and our affiliates from ADT assisted from the Paarl-town side.

A special surveilance drone was launched by the Farm-watch to tell the officers where to go.

The ADT officer did chased the shooting culprit by car and on food but unfortunately lost him in the suburb.

The culprit was luckely indentified by bystanders and another ADT officer, who assisted and recognized the culprit from previous arrests.
After some phone-calls, the Paarl police finally arrived, only to make a statement. Again an attempted murdercase will be opened by the farmer, who is still shocked by the violence endured.

These events open a complete new frame work. If people are willing to kill the farmer for a bag of fruits and use 8 man to come and steel it, one could suggest another game is in place.

How is the farmer safe to go onto his own land and how will he keep his work-force at work? These people are now also afraid as they also were shot at and threatened.

This is the first time as we recall it ever, that a farmer got shot at twice in one day for a few bags of fruit and did not get a scratch.

We hope Paarl police will investigate and find the culprits and bring them to justice.

25-07-2017 search and rescue mission in rough mountain terrain under extreme weather circumstances succesfully completed.

on the 25th of july 07.15 in the morning a lady drove and rolled her vehicle of the road on top of the Old Du Toit Kloof pass and landed below on a steep edge. She was wounded and stuck in her vehicle but managed to call the fire brigade for help, who called Paarl-Mountain Towing service, who placed the radio call through our control-room to all members as Paarlmountain towing service is a full member of the farm-watch.

The Drakenstein Farm-watch uses a drone to find incident spots and people fast, but due to the weather this was not possible in this case.

The mountain pas is 11 km long and was hidden in the clouds and drizlle.
Many teams responded, but it took a while to find the car in the extreem weather, down the slope with visibility less then a few meters.
The tow-truck driver finaly heard screaming and then all went fast. Via our control-room all teams were escorted to the right accident zone and our medical doctors directed er24 medical to the right spot.
It proves again, that the radio network of the farm-watch and our whatsapp support and our member/partners in medical- security- and towing services make it possible to respond in numbers, fully organised and with dedication to get many jobs done.

If you wonder why the fire brigade and police are not yet willing to communicate via radio with our organisation is a big question mark for us as well.

Wilderness Search and Rescue, assisted by Cape Nature, Working on Fire and SAPS are currently engaged in a Search operation in the Bainskloof area after a hiker was reported as overdue on Monday afternoon. Adverse weather conditions are hampering search efforts which is still on going and will continue tomorrow morning at first light.
