Milford CT JML 8U Travel Team 2016

Sadly, Milford was eliminated from the Bethwood tournament tonight. Monroe played a very strong game, and defeated Milford 5 to 1.
At the end of this tournament, these kids have played hard and learned a lot. They have also made lifelong friendships (so have the parents), and learned some hard, but important lessons. With a 10 run winning streak, this loss was very hard for these kids...there were many tears after the game. But these kids have SO MUCH to be proud of, and I hope they walk away from this experience positively and with fond memories of a summer full of baseball fun. Monroe stole our bacon, but they'll never steal these friendships, or the kid's passion for baseball. So, one last time: GO MILFORD!! We love you kids!!

Thanks to the coaches of the 8U tournament team for all your time and dedication this summer. It is because of your commitment, persistence and belief in the team that they made it so far. You acted as teachers, role models, and father (and mother) figures-I hope you realize how much of an impact you had on these kids lives, and what an amazing job you did with them. Through you, they learned that winning is great, but it's not everything. You taught them how to be good winners, and how to not be sore losers. They learned sportsmanship, teamwork, follow through, dedication...they also learned some amazing baseball skills. Our kids are better baseball players, and better kids in general, because of you! THANK YOU!!

And just like that, tournament season ends. Monroe defeated Milford tonight, 5 to 1. Milford had awesome plays, but just couldn't get on base. These kids have so much to be proud of, and have all grown and improved as baseball players.
I reminded Colin in the car ride home that baseball is about having fun and making lifelong friendships. I think this team can check both those things off as completed. Winning ten consecutive games was an added bonus to an amazing season. GO MILFORD!

Talk about close games. Milford took a quick lead in the first inning, bringing in five runs against Newtown's 1. The team held strong until the 4th inning, when Newtown brought in 2 more runs. At 5 to 3, Miford was still in the lead, but struggling at bat. Milford families were tense as we entered the sixth inning. Newtown brought in two runs!! Milford came up to bat.. With two outs, and two strikes, Jovani hit a straight shot, advancing two runners from first and second. Owen ran straight through third and headed for home, bringing in the winning run! Milford advances to the semi-finals against Monroe-and continues to be undefeated after 10 consecutive games! GO MILFORD!!!

Update: Milford does it again! Today's game was the most intense yet, with a final score of 6 to 5. Milford continues their undefeated streak with 10 straight wins. Next game, Milford versus Monroe, happens tomorrow night. If the team wins tomorrow, they go on to battle for the Bethwood Championship! GO MILFORD!

Update: Milford 8U won their first elimination game on Wednesday against Easton, 14 to 6. The team continues to be undefeated after 9 straight games. Next game, Milford vs Newtown Blue, will be played on Sunday. GO MILFORD!!

Update: Milford JML goes into the Bethwood tournament undefeated. ...the team won 8 games in a row, making them top seed. Single elimination tournament starts Wednesday. Great job, Milford!!!! Good luck in the upcoming games!

This game started off close. Oxford Titans got 2 runs against our 3 in the first inning. The team was sluggish because of the 90 degree heat and the blistering sun. But they got their energy and fire back, taking back the game with a final score of 17 to 3. Awesome plays were made, and the team had quality hits! Congrats to Connor R. for his two RBI's in the fifth inning!! Nicky C. turned a single into a homerun with great running! Nolan hit a beautiful triple! Too many great hits to highlight. Congratulations to Nolan and Seamus for an awesome play to second, and Colin and Nicky S. for the double play at second! Great fielding by all! This game wrapped up the seeding round for the Bethwood Tournament which starts next week. Milford goes into the tournament UNDEFEATED, winning 8 games in a row!! GO MILFORD!!
