Machines in Flames (2022, 50min) finds a secret history of destruction by following the footsteps of a clandestine group of French computer workers from the 1980s.
In 1980s Toulouse, an elusive group began bombing computer companies. ‘CLODO’ disappeared after three years, without ever being caught or ever to be heard of again. Two film makers launch an investigation into CLODO, looking for answers, motivations and identities, but are soon frustrated by a collective that struck in the dead of night, leaving in their tracks only ashes and the sporadic line of cryptic graffiti. The film combines archival traces, a viral desktop choreography, and late-night video recordings of CLODO’s targets into a meditation on computation, destruction, and the lure of archives.

We are thrilled to say that we will be part of Printed Matter’s 2022 New York Art Book Fair this week. After a gap of three sweeping years, this will finally be a chance to get back to being together in physical space, breathing the same air, sharing the same subjective excitations of our optic nerves*, and trying to address one another directly. We are seriously looking forward to this return!
The fair runs from the evening of Thursday 13 October through the following Sunday and will take place at the site of the first Printed Matter Book Fair in Chelsea at 548 W 22nd St. There will be a $5.00 admission fee for all days except Sunday, which will be free.

On this day, 28 September 1955, during a visit by dictator general Francisco Franco to Barcelona, anarchist resistance activist Francesc Sabaté hailed a cab and had it drive around the Catalan capital. During the journey he fired anti-regime leaflets through the sun-roof from a mortar he had assembled from inside his suitcase on the back seat. He reassured the worried driver saying "Don't worry, I work for the government and I am distributing informational materials." He later left the driver with a generous tip.
