In 2011, I heard John Maxwell speak for the first time. I had listened to many speakers speak before, and yes, most were motivational and very inspiring. However, when John spoke, in the Portland, Oregon basketball arena, not only did he speak, but he connected. I had never seen a person who cares so much about people, add value the way he did that day. I got inspired by John to do the same for others.
In 2018, I became a certified John Maxwell Team Leadership Trainer and Coach training others on personal growth and communication. Public speaking is the biggest, scariest dream I could think of. Hunting down my biggest fear, speaking in public sounded like a challenge worthy of spending my life pursuing! Growing up, I was always the quiet kid, listening to others stories, it took a lot of time and energy to practice my new craft. In 2019, I stepped away from the safety and security of a day job. If I was to fail, how could I show others the way forward if I didn’t bet on myself? You are far too important to me to not try. That’s when life got interesting, a pipe burst at my house and insurance wasn’t going to cover it, it was going to cost $20,000 with the mold remediation. I didn’t know how I was going to make it, my brreathe got short as my chest tightened. Despite setbacks and challenges you face, I want to encourage you with this, “you are the most courageous person that you know”. You can take steps toward your lion sized dream.
Connection is foundational to success. John Maxwell said, “Leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less.” If you learn to communicate well, you can engage with your peers, build teams, strengthen relationships, engage with clients, and add value to people around you. Radioactive Leaders live courageously to inspire others to reach their full potential. That is why we believe, “leadership is more caught than taught”. When others can see you leading your life, they begin to believe in you, your message, and your courage ignites the life within.
