Dapper Duck Farms
At Dapper Duck Farms we pride ourselves in farm fresh eggs from chickens and ducks.
If you look closely you will see an odd sight... 3 Muscovy ducks perched like they are chickens. Let's not forget they are not just a few feet off the ground.
I've already introduced yall to Brutus our micro bantam roo. He is still maturing and becoming such a gorgeous bird. Here is him and him and his 2 ladies.
Just 2 of our Muscovy girls being little divas.
Meet Jake (left) and Elwood (right) Blooster. This lovely pair of roos enjoy their time outside and singing for the world to hear. They've also been called the "Bash Brothers" before as they do their job in protecting their girls and fighting off predators.
I would like yall to meet the 5 newest flock members. These beautiful Muscovy females are going to make a great addition to the family.
Yall we have been taking our time posting this one as I have been trying to figure out a name for him. HERE IT IS!!!! MEET BRUTUS OUR MICRO BANTAM ROOSTER!!! He's the size if a baseball with the tough guy attitude.... comes with the size right? Deep down though he is just a little ball of feathers that can't hurt even a fly.
The runner crosses got to go on an adventure with the big girls and boys today and they are LOVING IT!!! Any guesses what they are crossed with?
With the way the weather has been around here the smallest of the ducks found their way outside for a few hours and they had a blast. The older ducks weren't to concerned with them which is great. And the chickens are just scared of em. 🤣🤣
So what happens around the farm when it's raining? Bet you can't guess. Here's a little video of some very happy ducks.
Its a very very hard night here at the farm. And one that will take a while to recover from. My sweet, amazing girl Dapper Duck, the reason for the farm in the first place, has passed away. I ask that everyone please give me some time. This one isnt just another bird on the farm. This duck was my best friend. She always was acting goofy or trying to hide, even if it was just her head. Youre going to be missed Dappy Girl
Howdy yall. We have been busy over here hatching new ducklings, watch recent ones hatch grow, and providing a hopefully just as happy as original home to a pair of mew ducks. We feel so honored and grateful when someone trust us to provide a happy healthy home.
We were able to help out a local we know who with a broken heart had to rehome his birds. Say hello to our 4 newest hens. Welcomed with open wings and lots of love here at the farm.
If you love eggs, you will really appreciate this post!
Duck Eggs vs. Chicken Eggs 🍳
Duck eggs are larger in size than chicken eggs. The whites in chicken eggs have a higher water content (more runny) than the whites in duck eggs. Duck eggs have larger yolks and a higher yolk-to-white ratio than chicken eggs.
We have both. Yes, they are different from each other, so I am gonna break it down quick:
🦆 Duck eggs are GREAT for baking.
🐓 Chicken eggs have thinner shells.
🦆 Duck eggs are larger and richer than 🐓 chicken eggs.
🐓 Chickens are prolific layers year-round if taken care of correctly, but 🦆 ducks are as well with much less light necessity.
🦆 Duck eggs stay fresh longer because of their insanely thick shell.
🦆 Duck eggs contain 30% more protein and a different type of protein than 🐓 chicken eggs, so if allergic to chicken eggs, most can eat duck eggs and vice versa.
Ounce for ounce, 🦆 duck eggs contain more Omega-3, Vitamins A and D, fatty acids, choline, folate, and iron than 🐓 chicken eggs.
🐓 Chickens lay well for about 1-2 years, then dramatically start slowing down production, while 🦆 ducks lay solid for 4-5 years before they slow down.
🐓 Chicken eggs come in a lot more colors.
So there ya have it!
It is a sad morning here at Dapper Duck Farms. Woke up earlier and went to let the birds out as always. We have had one broody momma duck the last almost month. Loudmouth was her name. Something got into her nesting spot last night and sadly took her and her eggs. We are gonna miss the smallest yet loudest duck of the bunch thats for sure.
The name behind the farm. Ms. Dapper Duck. She and Dipper (also in video) were the very first birds on the farm. They paved the way for all the growth currently happening and praying for more in the bear future.
Its been crazy busy around here with expansions, new birds hatching and just the overall getting ready for summer fun. So here is a Mother Daughter sun bathing photo for you.
We are all excited this morning at Dapper Duck Farms. well all of us except the 4 bantam chicks that got a new cell mate. Meet our first on site hatched duck. This is a pekin so growth will happen fast. will be looking to name it as soon as possible.
They baby chickens have decided they no longer need protection from the older ones. all 16 of the young ones. on the left is the older of the group by 1 week. on the right is some purchased and some hatched. Keep being on the look out for "Meet The Bird" series. it will be dropping before you know it.
Its been busy busy busy around here. we are so excited for all the plans we have. We are beyond appreciative of the support and love from all of our friends, customers, and strangers. A little insight into wat we are working on is a "meet the bird" series. where we will, well, do little videos about each bird and their personalities.
Yall are so awesome. We put the word out about our eggs, a few people tried some, and now we are thinking about expanding our farm already which is insane. The feedback and reviews we have received from everyone who has had the ability to get eggs from us is so heart warming. THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!
Went to the local Tractor Supply Co. Store today just to get a bag of feed..... meet our 4 new bantam chick's. Can't wait to see how beautiful they become.
