The weather this year has been brutal on the county roads. Each Commissioner has faced budget constraints but We have others challenges on the roads. This was dumped on one of our roads and a big shout out to Constable Lynn Kelley for finding the dumpers and making them clean it up. Just another example of your elected officials working hard for you.

All in all we fared pretty good with hurricane Beryl. Few trees down and a few flooded roads. National weather service will be in the area tomorrow surveying an area in precinct two that was possible tornado.

Cherokee County
Tornado warning for Reklaw.

Your afternoon commute will be different from your morning commute. Do not drive through flooded roadways. We will be out monitoring roads conditions throughout the day. Please pray that the freshly replace culverts and the ones that were badly damaged that are needing to be replaced will hold through this amount of rainfall.
Report any problems to the Sheriff Office 903-683-2271

We’re getting most of the roads back in shape still have some culverts to put in and a lot of trees have been picked up, so sure why not hurricane season Well i just don’t know what to say. SMH 🤦‍♂️

🌀Models continue pulling Beryl further north and east. In doing so, and as alluded to in this morning’s update, this will allow her more time over the Gulf to recover some of its strength after having come off the Yucatán later today.
Bottom line: this looks much more like a Texas landfall situation and quite possibly east of Corpus Christi, although NHC’s latest official track keeps the center between Brownsville & Corpus. But, looking at the latest modeling makes me lean at least on the east side of that envelope. We’ll see.
Monday morning continues to look like the window of time…likely closer to or even a bit after daybreak due to this further north/east path.
Furthermore, this would more closely coincide with high tide at 8:16 am, Monday. That will garner more attention if this timing continues to look legit.

Hasn’t been enough time for it to set up. If we hadn’t got to your road, please continue to be patient with us. We’re working that way.

Press Release
Cherokee County Judge Chris Davis

In the past five months, Cherokee County has recorded its highest rainfall amount in the past 130 years. Roads, bridges, culverts and other infrastructure have been severely damaged. The amount of tree debris left by these storms is becoming insurmountable. Our road crews are working long hours to keep the roads open. High water and a lack of dry materials makes some of these tasks almost impossible. Our public utilities such as electricity, water, telephone, and internet are doing all they can do to keep their services up and running. I ask that you please be patient while everyone does their best to get our area back to normal. For all the people who have just moved into our area thinking they had reached the Land of Milk and Honey, I do apologize, sometimes the milk goes sour and the bees sting really hard. Tough times like these can often make tempers flare, so I ask you to be considerate and respectable to all the people that are working hard to restore your services. I am reminded of a quote by Zig Ziglar, “Tough times don’t last but tough people do”.

We do ask the general public, if you have encountered significant damages dating back to April 26th to this date, you can report your damages to the State of Texas through iSTAT (State of Texas Assessment Tool). A link is provided in our Cherokee County website for your convenience. If in the event that assistance is awarded, this would be the way to track and review for eligibility.

We got 2 roads back open today. Cr 1309 & 1717.
I hope the more rain that is forecasted don’t wash them back out. 🤞

Major damage. All of these are in the Maydelle area. But damage like this is all over the precinct.

03/06/2024

We have major flash flooding, and several trees down. If you’re not out tonight, but commuting in the morning be very careful because your road could’ve been underwater during the night and caused damage and you may be the first one that gets to that damage.

23/05/2024

More trees down over night, be careful on your commute this morning
