For the next resident spotlight we’re featuring the last of our interns, Kwesi Asantey! Hailing from Toronto with a stint in Michigan for medical school, Kwesi instantly brought residency get-togethers to the next level with his talents for mixology and photography. He stays active with climbing, skating, and soccer, and he keeps the endoscopy skills sharp through his passion for video games. We’re looking forward to discovering more of his hidden talents over the coming years!

The next resident we want to spotlight is Carissa Battle, another one of our phenomenal interns. A Florida native, she worked as an engineer before going back to medical school in Galveston, TX, and now she’s made her way up north to Milwaukee! In her free time Carissa stays active with basketball and tennis, and she has a passion for songwriting and performing her music live. She starts her first month on the Urology service tomorrow, and we’re excited to have her on the team!

Interview season is here, and we want to highlight some of the people that make our program special! Today we’re featuring PGY-1 Arya Anvar, an avid fan of basketball, his daily morning smoothie, and walks along Lake Michigan. Arya hails from California, where he completed medical school at USC, but not before rotating at MCW as a visiting student!

“After spending a month here as an away student I knew I found a program that would train me well while getting to work with a group of people that cared for and supported each other.”

The last week of residency for these 3 stellar chiefs has gone by in an actual flash after kicking off last Saturday with a pretty epic roast. Suddenly we are at the eve of their graduation. These 3 have grown so much through their time with us and matured into amazing leaders, teachers and surgeons. They have weathered training in a pandemic and had each other’s backs unwaveringly through the challenges of residency. We are so proud of them and excited to follow their careers as they fly the coop for fellowship. More to come on each of them individually but a heartfelt to congrats to the good Drs. Dadhich, Maniar and Medairos!

Happy Thanksgiving! We’re thankful for the wonderful people of the MCW community, who enrich our lives on a daily basis, for our patients, who are the most important teachers we have, and for the people of greater Milwaukee, who have been through so much recently but remain resolute in the mission to better our community

In-Service exam tomorrow 😬 It’s a tough day, but here at MCW we have a great post-test tradition - karaoke night! At our first interview day earlier this week we asked our excellent candidates for their go-to karaoke songs, and then put together a little playlist with their choices. Check it out here! https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2qR1MPRTXXdRnNV3yt6eM9?si=ckrtwJuyQ22Zt0pkZzw3nA

Our next featured resident is the homegrown Isaac Melin! So far this year the MCW grad has done rotations on Plastics and Urology, and he’s currently powering through a month on the SICU (and by all reports doing a phenomenal job of it).

We’ve been a little quieter on social media this summer and it’s my fault.

If you’re new to our social media/department I’m Dr. Schaefer, assistant professor and APD over here at My practice is stones and benign prostate (including HoLEP) and as the token millennial on faculty I am supposed to be posting on our social media.

But I’m also mom to these 3 crazy kids including our newest addition and I just recently came back from maternity leave 🤰🏻🙃 which is why it’s been quieter on here. Fun fact: I had our oldest as a chief resident here at MCW while my husband lived in a different state…

Over the next couple months I will keep posting about our faculty and current residents for those of you who may be applicants. And if you are, we hope you’ll check out one of our virtual open houses! Also check us out on Twitter or feel free to send a DM anytime!
