What stops many people from relationship building is F.E.A.R.

Thoughts like, “I’m too old,” “I’m too boring,” and “I’m not good enough,” keep you from showing up to your fullest potential on social media.

I know that silencing that annoying voice in your head is exhausting and even when you’re trying you’re absolute best to create content, you still feel…stuck.

We have all been there and I think that’s the beauty of social media, we can share struggles like this to create relatable content that helps us connect with others.

Because when you can make true connections and relationships, that’s when you see growth.

I came up with this acronym for an upcoming keynote because I think it’s important to tackle these limiting beliefs so that you can step into the business owner you’re meant to be and share with others. Plus acronyms make things so much easier to understand and digest.

Here’s what F.E.A.R. looks like for many realtors and business professionals ⤵

Frenzied by trying to keep up with showing up on numerous platforms, updates, and trends on social media.

Exposed because you’re trying to balance being credible and wanting to show up as a human without getting too personal or being too vulnerable.

Awkward feeling when it comes time to record videos because you feel misaligned or unsure about your messaging. Being scripted is unnatural.

Resentful because you feel the pressure all around you to constantly create content, post on all of the platforms, and share what you’re doing during the day which is leaving you feeling burnt out.

The TRUTH is that we can’t relate to perfection.

If you just read through that list, shaking your head saying, “Yup, that’s me!” then you’ll love one of my latest podcast episodes, where I talk about this in more depth and give you tips on how to overcome F.E.A.R. on social media.

Drop a 🖐️ in the comments if this resonates with you.

What was the last post that you shared?

More than likely, it was something that made you laugh, feel inspired, seen, or maybe even a lightbulb moment.

Sharing someone’s post is a huge compliment plus, it’s a great way to get your posts in front of new people with the help of others and from the algorithm.

It’s also a great indicator that you really know your ideal client.

Want to create S.H.A.R.E.worthy content? Here are some benchmarks you can use while planning & writing.

S - Specific.

Write as if you’re talking to ONE person and zone in on one tip or piece of advice that they could use. Think about what they are struggling with. What questions are they asking?

H - Helpful.

Is the post inspirational, educational, or insightful? This is a great area to show your expertise, experience, and opinions.

A - Authentic.

Authenticity is the key to building trust. Offer original insight, meaning taking a topic and sharing your view and what it means for your ideal client. Show your face and let people her your voice. Also, share more personal content. You don’t have to share private information but general things about yourself that will help your followers get to know you.

R - Relatable & Relevant.

Does this piece of content speak to where your ideal client is right now? Does it provide value, validate their feelings, or create awareness around a problem that they don’t know they have?

E - Emotional.

Adding context to your content. Helping people understand your core values, quirks, and human elements helps people connect with you. Include their commonly-used words in your copy to make your content more powerful.

By using this checklist, your ideal client will feel understood by you which will build trust and ultimately lead to sales & referrals.

If you want to hear more about these points, head over to my podcast for the full rundown.

💣 Truth Bomb: Just because you get higher views doesn't mean that somebody is going to put their hand up and say, I want to work with you.

I know that may go against everything you’ve read or watched from Instagram coaches but here’s the thing while those view counts are great and give you a boost of dopamine there’s something bigger that you should be aiming for.

Becoming a thought leader in your industry.

Positioning yourself as a resource that people come to to hear your opinion or get a new perspective on common issues - is the key to standing out in a crowded arena.

When you start creating content that helps people have ah-ha moments, relate with you or helps them feel seen, that’s when real relationships and conversions happen.

Another hard truth - this kind of content is typically longer. 10 second Reels may not cut it unless you have a powerful caption that people are driven to read.

Building thought leadership happens through deep content that will entice people to binge watch and consume more!

I know this may be challenging because, yes it’s easy to create quick Reels and posts and there’s nothing wrong with that but I encourage you if you want to truly grow your influence and business, try showing up on video and speak directly to the camera and share your thoughts.

Are you up for the challenge? Let me know what you think about this concept in the comments.

P.S. This is just one of the tips that I gave during a recent podcast episode: My Top Video Tips to Help You Reduce Content Stress

Tell me if this sounds like you.

You want to create videos but you struggle with:

😑 Not knowing which strategy to follow

😑 Not wanting to watch your videos back because it makes you feel gross

😑 Not knowing what to say

😑 How long the video should be

😑 Wondering if you have to dance and act

If you’re shaking your head yes, you are not alone. I personally struggled with these same questions when I first started out.

For 5 years, I dreaded making video content and would never watch them because I would criticize and pick myself apart.

What helped me was that I kept trying, and focused on making content that felt authentic to me without the stress.

Now I show up on camera regularly with confidence and I want the same for you!

In my latest podcast episode, I talked about the 7 most common questions I’ve gotten about video content.

The truth is there’s no one-size-fits-all in social media marketing BUT there are some tips that could help you find what works best for you.

Take a listen and be sure to comment or send me a DM with your thoughts or questions.

📣 A new batch of updates coming to Instagram!

Last week, I sat with Jerry Porter from Social Media Examiner’s weekly live streamed talk show to chat about all of the new Instagram features, tests and rumors of things to come.

It’s always fun to have conversations about what Meta’s been up to and how it can affect marketing.

While we covered a lot during our interview, I want to share the 3 of the newest Instagram features you should put on your radar.

👯 Collab Updates

You’re now able to collaborate with up to 3 friends, even if they have a private account and you can now add music.

Collaborations are a great way to get in front of a new audience. Find people inside and outside of your industry who could provide value for your followers.

🎶Add Music to Your Carousel Posts

Music isn’t just for Reels and stories anymore!

Add more emotion to your carousel posts by adding upbeat or motivational music to it and watch your engagement grow.

🤩 Close Friends Feed

Have you used the “close friends” story option, where only a select group of followers can see a story? Well, this close friend option is said to be coming to Feeds as well!

This will allow you to create specific content for a niché or hot leads.

Personally, I'm thrilled about this update! With around 40% of posts in your feed coming from accounts you don't even follow, it's easy to lose touch with the people you used to love hearing from. This feature could be a game-changer!
As you can see, Meta’s been pretty busy. If you’re curious to see what else is being rolled out, you’ll want to check out Social Media Examiner’s podcast or website for more juicy details!

If you've ever been told no, that your message wouldn’t attract the right people, or that what you wanted to share wouldn’t be well-received.

I’m here to tell you, don’t listen!

Last week, I was a keynote speaker at Inman Las Vegas, I spoke on a topic that I feel very deeply about, one that I was told numerous times, “interesting idea but I don’t know if it’s tactical enough - people are looking for stuff that’s going to generate some real results.”

The feedback that I received proved all of the nay-sayers wrong, the audience left feeling encouraged and reignited and I felt completely aligned and extremely grateful.

Here’s a peek into the message that I shared. I hope that you feel inspired by it too.

The secret to more sales and clients that love and refer you is simpler than you think.

For so long you’ve been told that in order to succeed in business and grow your personal brand, you have to show that you are the smartest, most popular, and perfectly-curated person in the room.

Sadly, this is not what gets you raving fans. It’s hard for people to relate to perfection.

Instead of thinking you have to be “remarkable” which is defined as “extraordinary” or “worthy of being”, focus on being relatable.

Relatability is the key to building trust, leading to more sales and referrals. It’s showing your imperfections, quirks, values, and vulnerabilities. This is how you begin to build relationships and experience growth.

It can be scary to show up as your authentic self online but it should take the enormous pressure off of trying to appear put-together all of the time or waiting for only “big moments” to show up. People want to see the messy, funny, everyday life that you live.

Being relatable goes deeper than posts about the market, just sold & listed. It’s creating content with context that resonates with your followers.

The best part about implementing this relatability strategy is that you’re able to post about things that actually excite you which builds your personal brand that can not be duplicated.

So take this as your permission slip to strip away the need to be “remarkable” and lean into who you truly are and watch how your brand and business grow!

My Story

I teach people to use the camera on their smartphones to build a powerful personal brand.

I didn’t grow up with social media and I don’t have kids old enough to use Snapchat yet, I built an incredibly powerful human network of adult professionals by using free platforms like Facebook, Instagram and yes, even Snapchat.

I graduated college before Y2K which means I remember the OG internet called the Encyclopedia Britannica and when a long-distance phone call was about stretching the phone cord as far across the living room as possible.

When I became a Realtor®, “The Facebook” didn’t exist. I’m an old school marketer who’s using new school technology to create genuine relationships, screen to screen which means that I’m 100% disruption-ready.
