The Crown resting on Elizabeth II’s coffin while she lies in state in Edinburgh is the crown of her 12 times great-grandfather King James V. He was the last monarch to die on Scottish soil - back in 1542 - until Elizabeth II in 2022.

Called the Crown of Scotland, it was used at the crowning ceremonies of James V, his daughter Mary, Queen of Scots, her son James VI, and kings Charles I and Charles II.

It also recycled pieces from an earlier crown and, with the rest of the Honours of Scotland (royal regalia), it is part of the oldest Crown Jewels in the British Isles, after most of the original English pieces were destroyed during the civil war of the 17th century.

RIP Your Majesty 😞

Our Henry Wyatt risked life and limb for a grateful Henry Tudor.

On 3 September 1485, Henry VII, 'graced with the crown he had so gloriously won', enters London 'like a triumphing general' where he is greeted 'in good arraye' by the city's mayor, aldermen, and citizens. Once there, Henry heads to St Paul's for a thanksgiving service, and reverently presented his three battle standards at the altar.

Thereafter, he took up residence in the bishop of London's palace for the next fortnight to celebrate with his closest supporters, including his mother Margaret Beaufort, who he was reunited with after fourteen years. It truly was a rags-to-royal-riches tale, with little equal in English history.

Battle of Bosworth 1485 - Wars of the Roses DOCUMENTARY 22/08/2022

ON THIS VERY DAY IN 1485
Richard III was defeated at Bosworth and the Tudor era began.
Our Henry Wyatt wasn't at the battle. He was in prison, had endured torture by Richard III (and/or his people) but remained loyal to Henry Tudor.
After his release, he was richly rewarded by a grateful new king who sent him off to 'danger zones' as his representative/spy. The Tudor bloodline was sketchy, (having passed through a bastard line we share), so there were many contenders. It was not an easy throne to hold.
The problems were 'mostly' eradicated by the time the throne passed on to Henry VIII.
It's interesting to note that Henry Wyatt served the father and his son Sir Thomas Wyatt the Poet served the son.
Henry suffered ON BEHALF OF his king, whereas (IMO) Thomas suffered BECAUSE of his.

Decoding the Defiance of Henry VIII’s First Wife 07/07/2022

DECODING TUDOR ERA CIPHERS
“It’s not a surprise that women exercised their agency in unusual and creative ways in this period,” Heather Wolfe, associate librarian and curator of manuscripts at the Folger Shakespeare Library, said. “They did have to work outside the normal channels to get their messages out.”
Henry's first wife designed her own pendant declaring her relationship with Henry even as he was actively working to rid himself of her.
And he wanted EVERY TRACE of Anne Boleyn removed.
(But failed.)
"Last year, a researcher at Hever Castle in England used X-ray imaging to uncover erased inscriptions in a prayer book that had belonged to Anne Boleyn, which revealed a network of secret female ownership across generations, in defiance of Henry’s efforts to destroy everything associated with her."

Decoding the Defiance of Henry VIII’s First Wife Using a process she called “early modern Wordle,” a scholar claims to have uncovered a hidden message from Catherine of Aragon in a book of jewelry designs.

Especially interesting since Elizabeth’s father had her mother executed. Did he give their daughter her jewelry?
We are related to Anne Boleyn (and Elizabeth) through Sir Thomas Wyatt’s wife; she was a cousin.

28/05/2022

It was complicated. Sir Thomas Wyatt the Poet was in love with Anne Boleyn, she was a cousin of his wife, Elizabeth Brooke - and the king was moving heaven and earth to make her his queen.

On This Day In History

28th May 1533

Just five days after the special court at Dunstable Priory had declared King Henry VIII’s marriage to Catherine of Aragon invalid, Archbishop Thomas Cranmer proclaimed the validity of the King of England’s marriage to Anne Boleyn after a special enquiry at Lambeth Palace. The proclamation came just in time for the start of Anne Boleyn’s coronation pageantry, which began the following day.
