Rat Poison = Raptor Poison

One Great Horned Owl will eat at least 1,200 rats per year. When you put out rat poison, the rat eats it, becomes sick and sluggish and easy prey for the owl or other bird of prey to catch. The owl eats the poisoned rat and dies. If the owl is nesting and feeds it to its owlets, they all die. Now the rat-eating owls are dead and your rat problems just got much worse. It's a food chain out here! Think before you put out poison... just don't use it!

Ramp season is here. I am starting to see signs for people buying ramps. A simple low impact is just to take a leaf - eaten fresh or dried to use as a seasoning and a great addition to salt. United Plant Savers has lots of information and resources on growing ramps from seed. And we be bringing some seeds to share at gather to grow conference in Virginia this weekend. 🌱
