What’s better than team bonding??? Unplanned team bonding!! The team was loading the equipment trailer to get ready for the upcoming start to the season and the girls worked on their puzzle skills while trying to put one of the nets together!! Not sure fun is a word they would use, but they all did a great job!! 22 days away from our first game!!

And that is a wrap, Cyclone Summer Softball officially finished it’s season this past weekend. It’s hard to believe another season is done and gone but here are some highlights from the summer.
8 and under: We ended up having 2 different teams and Sara, Luke, Paula, and Jenna along with MULTIPLE other parents made that all possible. Some of our girls played in Norfolk every Monday, while others played a couple doubleheaders around the area on Wednesdays and both teams did absolutely amazing!! The amount of growth and love for the sport that was done this year makes the upcoming years look like a lot of fun!! Congratulations girls, coaches and parents on a great season!!
10 and under: The 10s found their groove early this season and competed in 20 total games which included their league tournament and all Districts. It’s a big step for girls to go to player pitch and this team took that challenge and did so great!! So many compliments on their “no fear” attitudes in the box and also in the field. Congratulations on a great season and again, huge thank you to Katrina and Laura and everyone that helped coach this years team!!
14 and under: 90% of this team has been together since they were 8-9 years old. We added some new faces this year and they fit right in with the dynamic of this team. Most of this years 14s will be playing high school ball this fall and they made it known they were a team with passion, drive and grit. They ended up playing 36 games this summer. Even with the constant state of thunderstorms and rain delays at every tournament, they played through the adversity and ended up finishing in the top 10 in Class C for the state of Nebraska! Congratulations girls and thank you to Brad, Tiff and all the parents for sticking by this team as we changed to more of a tournament team this summer. *18s and 14s team pictures photo credit to Tasha Compton.*
18 and under: This summer looked a little different for the 18s than normal with only playing 20 games but the amount of passion and growth from this group never waivered. They played in 3 tournaments and got 2 second place finishes and a 3rd place and kept the Kansas streak alive of bringing home hardware every time we go down there. Through all the adversity, the growth is what stands out. I can’t wait to watch this team take the field this fall for our High School season. Congratulations ladies and thank you to Drew and the parents for coaching supporting your girls this summer!!

Summer 2023 was a busy one, 84 total games split between 5 teams and 55 players and their families joined into one Cyclone Family!! We look forward to seeing everyone back in 2024! Signups will be sometime in February!!

July is here!! Holy cow we had a fast month of June full of games, practices, and lots and lots of softball!!
**As a reminder, if you are filling out your Diamond Club sheets, text them to Jenica (402-270-2096) to keep track as the months go by! All results have to be in by 8/2 so I can start the process of getting those who met their respective goals, their members award!! Stay tuned for pictures and results from all of our Cyclones teams this summer!!

Control the controllables!!

A way to gain mental strength?

Teach and SHOW a pitcher the ways she has control.

There are so many different ways where a pitcher can feel out of control....umpire, opposing team, errors, coaches expectations, parent expectations, self expectations.

Show her the ways she has control.

1) Her attitude.
2) How many times she practices.
3) The thoughts in her head.
4) Finding little successes.
5) Focusing on one pitch at a time.
6) How hard she works.

Alllllllllllllll of this is in her control 100% of the time. Not 50% of the time, not 95% of the time.

The more excuses you make for her or allow her to make for herself, the more out of control she will feel. It actually is counterproductive, which leads to more down moments or moments where she thinks she can't do it. She's looking for someone else to make an excuse for her.

The more excuses you take away from her and give her ownership of her actions, the more in-control she feels because she learns she IS strong, she CAN do it, and she actually HAS control over so many important things, not outside forces.

This is an every day/weekly conversation, not a once in a lifetime conversation.

No matter the week or the situation, it always falls back on control what you can and you have to let go of what you can't. When you don't get it go, it builds and builds and builds to massive frustration and a bit of a lost feeling.

You're not lost once you realize YOU have control over so many in your life.

Mental strategies & health are like marathons, not sprints. You have to dedicate yourself as a parent to learning, communicating and not making it about you.

What other things have you shown your pitcher that SHE has control of?

Hwy 91 High School Cyclone Softball would like to introduce the inaugural summer of The Diamond Club!! Take a look at the rules and rewards for practicing softball at home!! You DO NOT have to be a part of summer Cyclone teams to participate. We encourage all girls from all 4 of our Cyclone softball communities to find a friend, grab a glove, a bat, and a ball and have some fun! Rules are on picture 1 along with sheets to print out and record the work you put in. If your daughter reaches the goal for her grade level, we will have a shirt printed with all athletes in Diamond club and hand them out at a Cyclone home game this fall.
