US stock market close: May 10
US stocks ended mixed on Friday, with the Dow recording its fourth consecutive week of gains and its eighth consecutive session of gains.
The market continues to focus on earnings reports and the outlook for Fed policy. Several Fed officials said inflationary pressures remain high, suggesting that interest rates will remain high for longer.
All three major U.S. stock indexes recorded gains this week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 2.16% this week, marking its fourth consecutive week of gains. The Nasdaq rose 1.14% and the S&P 500 rose 1.85%, both rising for the third consecutive week.
A strong earnings season for U.S. stocks, as well as some weak labor force data, also boosted investor confidence in the outlook for the stock market.
As of the close, the Dow rose 125.08 points, or 0.32%, to 39512.84 points; the Nasdaq fell 5.40 points, or 0.03%, to 16340.87 points; the S&P 500 index rose 8.60 points, or 0.16%, to 5222.68 points.

US stocks closed mixed on Wednesday, with the Dow closing higher for the sixth consecutive trading day, the Nasdaq falling slightly, and the S&P 500 remaining basically unchanged.
The market continues to focus on earnings reports and the prospect of the Federal Reserve cutting interest rates.
Many Federal Reserve officials gave speeches, and the president of the Boston Fed hinted that high interest rates need to be maintained for a longer period of time to curb demand and lower inflation.
U.S. stock earnings reports remain the focus of the market.
