The Pinellas County Sheriff's Honor Guard recently visited Washington, D.C., to participate in the National Law Enforcement Memorial. This visit was a time for reflection on the sacrifices made by officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. While in the capital, the honor guard members joined with the Police Unity Tour, who had ridden over 250 miles from Norfolk, Virginia, to the United States Capitol in honor of the fallen officers. Sheriff Bob Gualtieri was also present in D.C., supporting the agency members and honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard had a change in command on Friday. After six years, Lieutenant Turner has stepped down from his role as the OIC (officer in charge) and Lieutenant Hayes was given command as the new OIC. Captain Napier was present to receive the saber from Lieutenant Turner as he relinquished command. Captain Napier then passed the saber over to Lieutenant Hayes. The passing of the saber is tradition and is a symbol of the outgoing commander, relinquishing their command of the honor guard and handing it over to the incoming commander. Please join us as we say a farewell to Lieutenant Turner and also as we welcome Lieutenant Hayes as the new Honor Guard Commander.
