Feeding Kinetic Racers for over a decade has evolved into the KinetiCabaret

What an amazing and glorious weekend! The engineering was remarkable and the art & pageantry delighted the crowds. And we were there feeding races thanks to your support. So here’s a rundown of the weekend’s menu,
Saturday at the plaza we served 400 sweet and savory pastries. Cookies, cup cakes and corn muffins with either hot dog bites or the vegetarian option of muffins with spicy carrots (served with honey mustard topping). Then we all went on the end of “Dead Mans Drop” in Samoa and set up the bicycle bistro to serve 130 pulled pork sandwiches with Cole slaw and our famous onion rings. Our sandwiches with onion rings were back by popular demand and continued to be a racers favorite. And no wonder, that is a long haul down the beach and over the dunes!
Sunday we joined the racers at the Eureka Natural Food Store. After their trip along the Eureka waterfront, hungry racers arrived and we passed out about 75 servings of black beans, white rice and a fresh homemade salsa topped with “Papas Tostadas” (a crispy tortilla with spicy potatoe’s and cheese). Then, to the delight of many a hard racing, beer drinking camper at Crab Park, we served up 80 hot grilled cheese at midnight.
Monday, Memorial Day we drove our sculpture toward Ferndale. Stopping first where the teams that are heading up the long rough ride to cross the Eel River were treated to Chili Dogs, served Fritos with cheese and onions to top them off. Then we headed to the finish line, enjoying the glory, and pulled behind the Palace as racers danced to the LumberJack Band we served another 80 chili dogs. And please note that this is the second year we have crossed the finish line with hot food ready to serve. But wait! We’re not finished yet! We went to the awards ceremony, and when the food trucks ran out of “racers meals” we made sure that they wasn’t a hungry racer/peon or pit left behind. We served 4 gallons of a lovely creamed potato, leek and cauliflower soup. It was an exhausting and wonderful experience that none of us on the Tootsie Rolls KinetiCabaret will ever forget and we remain entirely grateful to our donors and supporters without whose help we couldn’t share this story.
