Classroom Improvement Grant

The Colorado Technology Education Association, in cooperation with supporting vendors, has created and funds the CTEA Classroom Improvement Grant program. The purpose of this grant is to support teachers for classroom improvements such as purchasing supplies and materials, repair equipment or provide for professional development in order to help improve the educational setting for their students in their classrooms.

To apply for the CTEA grant, you can complete the form here. The deadline to register is Friday, September 30, 2016. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. to be considered for the grant.

Conference Registration is now OPEN!

The registration for the 2016 CTEA Annual Conference on October 6 & 7, is now open! The cost per registration is $200. The cost of the Conference includes membership to CTEA and ITEEA, in addition to food and facility costs. I would like to personally invite all Conference attendees to participate in the CTEA Social on Thursday. We will be holding the Social at the Denver Curling Club. The presentations we have scheduled include:

· RC Cars and Engineering Activities for the Classroom – This presentation will cover student designed engineering activities, application of Solidworks to an engineering model, and how the Ten80 Racing can be used in the pre-engineering classroom.

· QuadCopter Cockpit – This presentation will cover the development of a payload to fly on a QuadCopter to collect GPS, Altimeter and Compass data and transmit that data to the ground for display on a virtual cockpit display of flight instruments and a real-time map.

· DYI Vacuum Forming Machine – This presentation will show participants how easy it is to build an easy to operate “shop built” plastics vacuum forming machine using common items found in shops and labs.

· Welding Simulation – This presentation will demonstrate how to implement welding technology into a clean classroom environment with exposure to welding trades, careers, materials, in applications.

· Medical and Sustainable Technology (How I got 50% girls into a Tech Ed class) – This presentation will cover how this class has allowed us to cover the agricultural and medical Tech Ed standards AND has increased our female enrollment in the department.

· Transitioning from Tech Ed to STEM – This will be an interactive session to learn and share how we can rebrand our current programs to increase funding and gain positive perception without losing the “Design, Build” importance of our programs.

· Design Thinking and Sustainable Architecture – This presentation will demonstrate a lesson on sustainable architecture and the use of the design process, supplemented by student growth data as a result of the unit.

· Using Interactive Simulations and Digital Tools – This presentation will help enhance your course using some of Delmar/Cengage’s latest technology, including: Delmar Online training simulation- HVAC, DATO, Mindtap and Coursebuilder.

· Tinkering with Electronics – This presentation will go over fun activities that introduce and inspire students with simple circuits. This is a hands on presentation.

· Open Source 3D Printing – This presentation explores the Open Source origins of desktop 3D printing, and how collaborative tools will remain critical moving forward as educators build curricula around this exciting technology.

· New in Solidworks 2014 – This presentation will go over tips and tricks with Solidworks 2014.

· Computer Science Programs at Warren Tech – This presentation will show the attendees the work we are doing in our Computer Science, Cybersecurity and Game Programming/Game Development classes at Warren Tech.

· Middle School Wood Projects – This presentation will be about traditional wood projects for Middle School and High School students that range in price from $5.00 to $12.00.

· FYI (Finding Your Interest) – This presentation will go over how I expose my students to as many different professions as possible. This is done through modules such as graphic design, landscape architecture and design, criminal justice, small engine repair, alternative energy, entrepreneurship, communication technologies, finance and life skills.

· Project, Projects, and More Projects! – This presentation will be about projects that you can use in your classes tomorrow. You will be provided all the information you need to get started including tips that I have learned along the way.

· CSU Design Projects – Looking for something new to challenge your students? Join Dr. De Miranda and students as they present four design projects. Each design project will include problem statements, problem posters, and rubrics.
