ARE YOU RETIRING IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

If you are retiring soon, and have health insurance through an employer plan, don’t assume your retiree plan is better than Medicare.

You may have had excellent health insurance through your employer, but when you turn 65, the rules and options change.

It’s of utmost importance to understand that your retiree plan may not be better than Medicare. But how do you know?

Let’s go through the ways you can look at your options and decide which is best for you.

1. Does the retiree plan require Part A and/or B?

Many retiree plans require you to be enrolled in Part A and B because this dramatically reduces the cost that your retiree employer pays for your insurance. Check your retiree health insurance documents to confirm this.

If the plan does require Part A and/or B, make sure you enroll based on their rules.

2. Know the details of your retiree plan.

This step will help you determine whether or not the retiree plan is right for you. Let’s look at the list below to understand what details you need to consider:

• Monthly premiums.
• Deductibles.
• Maximum out-of-pocket costs.
• Prescription coverage.
• Dental/Vision coverage.
• Networks: Is there a small network, or will it cover any doctor across the country.
• Length of coverage: Some plans only cover you for a certain number of years. You will need to know what happens when that ends.
So, please, do not assume that your retiree plan is better than Medicare. Know the facts about your retiree plan and about Medicare. Only then can you make the right decision.
Do your research. It can save you significant amounts of money and make your life easier in the long run.
I can help guide you through this process and make sure you understand all your options. There is no fee for this service. Call or email me today.

ARE YOU TURNING 65 SOON AND BEING OVERWHELMED WITH MEDICARE MAILERS AND PHONE CALLS?

Are you tired of hearing about Medicare? Tired of trying to figure out what is best for you? Would you just like some straightforward answers?

I hear from so many people that Medicare is a nightmare and they're over all the TV commercials, mailers and endless phone calls.

I HEAR YOU AND I UNDERSTAND!

Let me share a few nuggets that may help you when choosing your Medicare options.

Step 1: Know When to Join Medicare

When you turn 65, you must have "creditable" health insurance coverage or possibly face penalties later. That means you are either on Medicare or on coverage that meets Medicare rules.

If you currently have employer coverage, contact your plan administrator and ask if it's creditable. If not, join Medicare. If you don't have any coverage when you turn 65, you'll want to join Medicare.

Step 2: Signing up for Medicare

If you are already on SS, you will automatically be enrolled in Medicare and will receive your card in the mail approximately 3 months before the month of your birthday.

If you are not on SS yet, you will need to enroll yourself. (Contact me for details if you’re not sure how to do that.)

You may want to enroll in only Part A or both Part A and B, depending upon your situation. Once enrolled, your coverage will begin the first day of your birthday month. If you are enrolling after 65, it will begin on the first day of the month following the month you enroll.

Step 3: Choosing your options:

There are two Medicare Options: Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage.

Many factors go into choosing the best option for you, but the critical factors will be cost and flexibility.

Step 4: Choose Your Medicare Company

If you decide to go with Medicare Advantage, you will then need to choose which plan. I can help you compare many of the plans available in your zip code and compare costs with Medigap plans.

If you choose Original Medicare, you probably want to also enroll in a Medigap plan to cover the percentage Medicare alone does not cover.

Step 5: Choose Your Medicare Part D Plan

You will probably want prescription coverage even if you are not on any prescription drugs right now. The Medicare rule is that you have "creditable" prescription drug coverage when you turn 65, or face penalties later.

You could have this creditable coverage through an employer plan or you could enroll in a Medicare Part D plan. If you went with Medicare Advantage, typically those plans include Medicare Part D coverage.

I know Medicare can be confusing, especially with all the commercials, phone calls and mailers. I know it can be frustrating waiting for the government to help you.

It's my mission to make Medicare easier for you! I want to help you make the right decision for your healthcare and for your pocketbook!
