The Make-or-Break Question for a New Roommate: Do You Drink? A Brooklyn woman who has been sober for three years needed a roommate. But alcohol would not be allowed in the apartment. Some people thought that was a joke.

There’s this phenomenon that happens to so many of us when we stop drinking. I often call it the pink cloud. We go around for months pinching ourselves and living on this euphoric high where it feels as if life just couldn’t get any better. The world seems brighter, the birds chirp louder, and life just feels better.
And we might approach that with some wariness and trepidation. On one hand we’re thinking - can it get any better than this? And on the other hand we’re waiting for the bottom to drop out because experience has shown us to expect the worst.
Life does keep getting better though because we’re on this new path and new journey where instead of feeling derailed every time life happens we use it to grow. Growth feels good. It’s progress and as humans we thrive on progressing and bettering ourselves.
When we do the work to change our beliefs and the way we look at ourselves and the world around us, life really does keep getting better because we are the ones in control then. Life stops feeling overwhelming and becomes manageable.
We become better at learning what we can control and what we can’t.

"But I know [drinking any amount of alcohol] comes at a cost to my health, which I understand rationally from recent studies, and viscerally from hangovers that come more easily and last longer. And with fewer of my close friends drinking, there is less FOMO, or fear of missing out.
So for now, I would rather open a can of delicious non-alcoholic beer."

Do you STILL have unenlightened people around you who will dredge out old "scientific" reports that say that alcohol is good for you? Share this from the World Health Organization (WHO):
"Alcohol is a toxic, psychoactive, and dependence-producing substance and has been classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer decades ago – this is the highest risk group, which also includes asbestos, radiation and to***co.
