me and moby are stealing a couple days to rest and relax and spend some time with family at the beginning of this week, and it feels so good to turn off the oyster brain for a little bit. ☺️
this summer growing season has been a busy, hot, and productive whirlwind, and i’m so excited that we’ve been able to get more oysters than ever out into our local world thru markets and our other regular spots 💙 thx for slurping them up!
back at it in time for the weekend.
you know where we’ll be tomorrow, pals! market day once more, which means emily + moby will jet off bright and early to portland to set up in deering oaks 7-1, and hallie will be holding down the fort in waterfront park in bath 8:30-12 🦪
it takes a lot of planning and time and energy to make it to these markets every week, so come show us some oyster love! it even looks like the drippy weather will clear out in time for us to have a beautiful morning ☀️
i’m starting to feel the burn of the season just a little bit now that july is almost gone, but no matter how sleepy i am i will always LOVE harvesting these oysters for you 🦪💙 our weekly market days are here again:
🦪 TODAY (friday) until 1 in memorial park
🦪 TOMORROW 7-1 in deering oaks park AND 8:30-12 in waterfront park

ALSO friendly reminder now that it’s 🔥 toasty 🔥 outside: if oysters are on your shopping list it’s a great idea to bring a cooler or insulated bag and an ice pack along with you. we will ALWAYS pack your order with an ice baggy to tide you over for the trip if you don’t bring your own chill along, but if you’re not headed straight home a cooler is a must!

💥NOTE for our city of ships friends - market relocates to the BIW parking lot on the other side of the bridge to make way for heritage days! this week only💥
if you come out to markets for oysters this weekend you might find some of these special green gems mixed in with your order 💚
i spent low tides this week snorkeling around the farm and hand picking some of these rogue beauties for you, probably my number one favorite oyster farming activity 🦪🤓
we’ll see you out there! 7-1 in deering oaks and 8:30-12 in waterfront park.
ALSO - though i won’t be able to make it in person, my oysters will be at trailer!

10-1 in memorial park 😉
back at for the first market tomorrow! 10-1 in memorial park, and every friday from here on out. hope to see ya 😎
from my field of vision today: lots of slimy invasive tunicates of different varieties starting to show up now that the water is warming up. lots of barnacles. and one sea star.
🦪 fun fact: sea stars are a big predator of oysters. they use the suction disks on the undersides of their arms to pry the oyster open and then insert their stomach membranes through their MOUTH and into the shell opening, after which digestive juices are released to break down the oyster’s body 😳
Are you a rhubarb fan, or a “rhu-hard-pass” ? I feel like this stem can be just as divisive in personal preference as the oyster itself!
Perhaps the two of them know they can ruffle up some feathers, because rhubarb is a perfect late-Spring oyster pairing in a refreshingly tart mignonette. Especially with these that are very briny and vegetal with notes of celery and freshly cut grass.
Enjoying the flavors passing through our Maine kitchen!
Thank you to our friends Bryn and Joe for letting us pull up some stems. 🤌
here we come! it will be a busy weekend for us, so consider preordering through the link in my bio if you’re hoping to grab a larger quantity of oysters from us at markets on saturday. you can also order to pick up at my house in bath.
CSA folks - message/email/text if you want us to reserve some from your share!
THANKS! 🦪🦪🦪🦪
and away we go! read my latest newsletter here:
and away we go! dear oyster pals, and we're off! the water is warming up fast, the oysters are putting on some impressive new shell, and markets are feeling more and more summery by the week. here's a quick and dirty update as we blast on into memorial day weekend...
☀️☀️☀️
feeling mostly organized, mostly ready for a impending explosion of growth and fouling and fun of the next few months… mostly. 🤪
you could get some oysters from us at markets tomorrow and fry them up and turn them into oyster po’ boys like THESE 😱
good news, the boat is running and we’re all stocked up and headed off to 7-1 in deering oaks and 8:30-12 in waterfront park TOMORROW! 🦪 see ya there! 🦪
dinner 📸
a monster from last week’s low tide chores 👹
the eastern oyster can live as long as 20 years if left to it’s own devices. i would guess this one is 6 or 7 years old, and probably escaped during some of my early days gear rigging experiments 😊
🎉 we’ve got lots of oysters for the mamas this weekend! 🎉
🦪 tomorrow (saturday) is our first day back in BATH! ~ 8:30-12 in waterfront park. sister will be holding down the fort again this year and wow am i grateful for her help.
🦪 and i’ll be as usual, 7-1 in deering oaks! we’ll see ya out there 😎
helloooooo new favorite oyster topping 🤯
i love hanging out at farmer’s markets because of all the fun new local food things there are to discover and take home that i probably wouldn’t normally opt for. like this jar of tasty fermented cabbage and habanero “hot pink” from which is delicious by the fork-full but also demanded to be put on an oyster and wow 🤩 just the right bit of heat and bright tang but not too salty… mmmmm mmmm. 🤤 🦪
and good news - they’re also at market in portland and bath with us so you can try for yourself! AND P.S. - we’re back at the bath market starting THIS WEEK! 🎉
tomorrow in the park! 7-1. there will be sun, there will be oysters 🦪☀️
ooooh we’re so excited, outdoor farmer’s market season is about to kick off!
this saturday is the first back out in deering oaks park and we will BE there! 7-1, in our usual spot.
the bath market is also moving back to waterfront park this weekend, BUT i need a couple more weeks to get the farm all situated for the spring before we bite off any more yet, so expect to find us back starting saturday may 11th (you can pick up at my house up the road if you can’t wait til then! just give a shout.)
and we’ll be joining again on fridays in memorial park starting may 31! WOOHOO HERE WE GO, MARKET SEASON!
vending at farmer’s markets takes a good amount of extra time and energy but it’s been a core part of my mission since day one to make oysters available to local folks in a way that’s a little more affordable and accessible, because they are truly such a GOOD food both for the planet and for our bodies! plus we love chatting with you, helping hone your shucking skills, and hearing about all the yummy things you do with our oysters. we’ll see ya out there! 🤗
🌳Who’s joining us in Deering Oaks Park this Saturday for our outdoor season Opening Day!? We’ll be there 7am-1pm with delicious foods, gorgeous flowers, plants and more direct from the Maine farmers who grew and produced them!
