HOLINESS REVIVAL MOVEMENT WORLDWIDE HOREMOW
DAILY DEVOTIONAL BY PASTOR PAUL RIKA INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR
DATE: MONDAY DECEMBER 5, 2022
TOPIC: DANIEL’S EXEMPLARY RIGHTEOUSNESS AND HOLINESS
TEXT: DANIEL 1:1-8
1. In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.
2. And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.
3. And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king's seed, and of the princes;
4. Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
5. And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.
6. Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:
7. Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abed–nego.
8. But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
KEY VERSE: DANIEL 1:8 “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.”
The practice of righteousness is not communal, it is individualistic. In today’s text Daniel expressed what was in him irrespective of the other three Hebrew children. Whatever was their own thoughts and whether their own godliness could take what he has taken now, was not considered by Daniel. He didn’t consult with them.
Daniel purposed it in his heart. What brought about this purpose of heart? Remember these children selected to be trained for intelligence were to be given the king’s special food.
Among the Moslems for instance, whenever an animal is to be slaughtered, they must chant something: “The gods we worship sanctify this thing and let your name be upon it” and Daniel knew this. These meats coming from the king must have first been sacrificed to idol; so, I will not eat them.
I will not play an allegiance to demons and Satanism or eat freely that which is offered to the enemy of Jehovah, Elohim. It will defile me and weaken my faith. It will make God frown at me, and turns away from me. Daniel, but that is a very risky decision. The information might reach the king and it could lead to your death.
When I chose Jehovah, did I not choose death along with it? When I chose the worship of God, did I not choose disappointment and suffering along with it? I will not defile myself. Let Nebuchadnezzar hear. He did not confer with the other Hebrew children.
Why is it that you cannot on your own take decision on matters of righteousness? Take the lead, others will join you. You feel that person is not doing it? Do you know the person’s grace of righteousness and commitment? Learn of Christ because Jesus is the example and whatever He says unto you do it.
Thought for the day: The practice of righteousness is personal
Song for the day: I want to be like Daniel...... (3x)

TOPIC: JOIN THE GREAT MEN OF FAITH

TEXT: HEBREWS 11:7-11, 17-31
7. By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
8. By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
9. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
10. For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
11. Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
17. By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
18. Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
19. Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
20. By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.
21. By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.
22. By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.
23. By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.
24. By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;
25. Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
26. Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
27. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
28. Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.
29. By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.
30. By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
31. By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.

KEY VERSE: HEBREWS 12:23 “To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect”

Just and righteous men live by faith. The great men of old lived by faith according to the passage of Hebrews. Each one had a significant feat which was exercised. Everyone fulfilled exploits in their day and time which was recognisable and admirable to the extent of notable inclusion in the hall of faith.

Enoch walked with God. It was daily trust in God that sustained him. Paul set his eyes on Jesus and showed that a holy life was possible by faith. Daniel and the three Hebrew young men, as just men were delivered from the lions and the fiery furnace by faith.

Elijah did great miracles and was supernaturally sustained by faith. Peter, Joshua, Abraham, Joseph, David and countless others all had remarkable testimonies.

What is your qualification of being just? Can you truly say you are walking by faith, acting in faith, and living by faith? ‘The just shall live by faith!’ The great spiritual leaders all lived by faith, and exercised total trust and confidence in God every day.

Join the rank of great leaders of faith by standing in faith. Regardless of situations, your faith should not slip. Your faith must stand to the end and the quality of being just shall come upon you. You too can overcome by faith.

Though we walk in the flesh and you see us overcome; though we have been simple and gentle, we do not war after the flesh. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to pull down strongholds. In warfare, we are mighty and burning with fire because we trust in the living God.

Among the list of just men and women who entered heaven by total trust, you too can enter. Just believe God and trust Him; hold to the benefits of the cross and the promises of God up to the point of death and you shall be smiling home to meet God. Let faith make you humble and you shall be great in the kingdom of God.

Thought for the day: Fight the good fight of faith to be truly great.

Song for the day: Stand up, stand up for Jesus…

TOPIC: SUPERIORITY OF CHRISTIANITY OVER OTHER RELIGIONS

TEXT: JOHN 14:1-7
1. Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Me.
2. In My Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
4. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
5. Thomas saith unto Him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.
7. If ye had known Me, ye should have known My Father also: and from henceforth ye know Him, and have seen Him.

KEY VERSE: JOHN: 3:16- For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Jesus Christ is the Saviour of the world. Jesus Himself is God. He is superior to all men, acclaimed gods, prophets, or masters of other religions in the world.

Christianity began through Jesus Christ. When someone says he is a Christian, it means that he is a follower of Jesus Christ. On earth, it is widely believed that Abraham is the father of many nations. Abraham had two prominent sons; Isaac and Ishmael.

God had chosen that the Saviour would come from the lineage of Isaac, not Ismael. Isaac gave birth to two sons; Esau and Jacob but God chose Jacob to achieve His plan. God’s plan was that the Messiah would come from the lineage of David, of the tribe of Judah and that was where Jesus was born.

We can only be saved by Jesus Christ as Christians and not any other religion.
John 3:18 He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

The atrocities Satan is committing all over the world are because of the patience of Jesus. He has allowed Satan to do all these for a season, after which He will be cast into the lake of fire for ever.

Unbelievers, adherents of other religions who do not believe in Jesus together with sinful Christians shall all be cast into the eternal lake of fire. Satan knows this truth; hence, he is busy going about to deceive people to bring as many as possible along with him to eternal damnation in the lake of fire.

God wants those of other religions to come to Jesus today and be saved, if not, they will not make it to heaven, Jesus is the only way to see God; He is the way, He is the Truth, He is the Life, no one can come to the Father except by Jesus.

Thought for the day: Repent today, tomorrow may be too late.

Song for the day: I have chosen the way...…

TOPIC: MARY THE HIGHLY FAVOURED MOTHER OF JESUS

TEXT: LUKE 1:26-38
26. And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27. To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
28. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
29. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
30. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
32.He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David:
33. And He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end.
34. Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35. And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
36. And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
37. For with God nothing shall be impossible.
38. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

KEY VERSE: LUKE 1:45. And blessed is she that believeth for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.

Mary was the virgin woman through which the Saviour of the world, Jesus Christ was born to save mankind. God allowed it that way, so that he can go through the normal process of delivery as other humans went through.

Mary was highly blessed among women to be the one to give birth to Jesus Christ. She took the message from the angel with great humility and said, “Be it unto me according to Thy word”.

Mary at that time was already in courtship with Joseph, but never defiled herself like the world does these days. She kept her virginity and lived a holy lifestyle that heaven took note of.

She nurtured Jesus with care and diligence knowing who He is to the world and was bringing Him to the house of the Lord. Mary saw the wisdom and qualities in Him but kept note of it. She was always careful not to use harsh words on Him even when they sought and later found Him.

At the wedding in Cana of Galilee, she told the disciples “whatsoever He tells you to do, do it.” She was in total obedience to Joseph in adhering to all the instructions God was giving to him to save the life of the Child.

Mary as a committed lover of God was always found among the brethren even after the Lord ascended to heaven. Mary did not use her position as the earthly mother of Jesus to control the rest of the disciples. She was always humble. Mary accepted that she was “the handmaid of the Lord”, respecting the Lord as her Lord.

It is unfortunate that some people worship the image of Mary today which is complete idolatry. Mary made it to heaven by the holy life she lived and maintained. The standard of God has not changed: Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by Him.

Thought for the day: Worship God and not His creative works

Song for the day: I will never worship man-made god, man-made god…

TOPIC: CARE FOR YOUR LIFE

TEXT: ACTS 27:33-36
33. And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing.
34. Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.
35. And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.
36. Then were they all of good cheer, and they also took some meat.

KEY VERSE: ACTS 27:34 Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you

Some basic necessities are required for your health and carelessness in taking care of one's health could have consequences in future. For instance, some people may have accident today and fail to go for proper medical check-up, only to begin to experience effects much later in life when they go to the doctor to make complaints.

Oh that you were wise at that time. Feed your body with appropriate food for your health. Be careful with fasting. If you persistently subject that body to a bad condition you shall find it so in future.

A particular pastor once said, I have finished all my fasting!' I asked, how did you finish your fasting? He explained that he went on marathon fasting as a young preacher, until stomach ulcer caught up with him.

Now that you claim to have finished fasting, have problems also finished? Why did you finish your fasting so early? Have troubles of life that may warrant scriptural fasting and prayers also finished? Let your moderation be known to all men.

Be informed that if you fail to take proper care of this body today, it might be the reason why you may backslide tomorrow? When some sicknesses come on some people and the pain is too much to bear, they begin to accuse God.

It was on account of Job's body that the wife asked him to curse God and die. If Job was not committed to righteousness, the case of his sickness was enough to make him angry with God. Do not wait until you become older and the body takes another shape because of the way you treated it yester years, and then you begin to accuse God or blame others.

Do not engage in risky businesses that could bring ill health to your body and affect your performance. There are some businesses that may give you pneumonia or asthma due to exposure to dust, irritants or extreme cold weather. Be careful with your health.

Thought for the day: Take positive actions early in life to take care of your body

TOPIC: FOR EVERY ACTION THERE IS A CONSEQUENCE

TEXT: JUDGES 9:22-25
22. When Abimelech had reigned three years over Israel,
23. Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:
24. That the cruelty done to the threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren.
25. And the men of Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech.

KEY VERSE: JUDGES 9:56 “Thus God rendered the wickedness of Abimelech, which he did unto his father, in slaying his seventy brethren:”

Beloved whatever we sow in this life is what we reap. The wickedness that we do or the one that is done unto us will never fail to be recompensed. The universal law of sowing and reaping is an unchanging reality in life.

As believers, we must be very careful and thoughtful in every action we take because there is pay-back time. All the evil Abimelech did when he was the king of Israel he thought, even the cruelty he did to the 70 sons of Jerubbaal had been forgotten but God was determined to bring the blood of those people upon Abimelech and so it was.

Genesis 8:22 “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease”

When we sow the seed whether good or bad, we must receive the harvest. While we still have time, we must be willing to repent from sowing bad seeds/actions, so that we might not be caught up with the consequences of our actions or deeds.

2 Samuel 12:10-12
10. Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised Me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.
11. Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
12. For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.

Thought for the day: Refrain from doing evil to avoid repercussions later in life.

TOPIC: IS THE USE OF THREAD FOR PLAITING HAIR PERMITTED? - PART 1

TEXT: 1 TIMOTHY 2:8-10
8. I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
9. In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
10. But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

KEY VERSE: 1 CORINTHIANS 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

The recommendation of the scripture is that which is appropriate for feminine dressing- women professing godliness. How much you need is not specified, what is specified is that which is suitable for women professing godliness. There are wrappers that you can buy with seven hundred naira. There are others that range between seven thousand to seventy thousand naira. In the society where you are, how do people look at you with the kind of cloth you put on?

We shall consider the Divine injunctions in 1 Timothy 2:8-10
8. I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
9. In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
10. But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

Whatever you want to wear, you are supposed to answer the question- if you wear it, will it affect your godliness before the people? Will the people see a sign in you that there is ungodliness? How will the society read you when you put on that cloth? That you are high-minded?

The bible here is trying to make you avoid anything that will corrupt your mind or that of the society as being high-minded. Humility will be corrupted. Avoid wearing anything that will affect you or make the society murmur against you. Does not nature itself teach you?

What are the comments of the society around you, the people in whose midst you are? That is why Apostle Paul said you put on only that which becometh women professing godliness. Your claim of godliness must be authenticated by your clothing and adornment.

The society around you should see the gospel of righteousness and holiness in your dressing. Your hairdo must not conform to the fashions of this world that comes to naught.

Thought for the day: Is God glorified in your clothing and adornment?

Song for the day: I want to know you more and more.

TOPIC: POOR CONVICTION OF MOST CHURCHES CONCERNING JEWELLERY

TEXT: 1 PETER 1:14-16
14. As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
15. But as He which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16. Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

KEY VERSE: EXODUS 23:2 Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment.

Many pastors from different churches and denominations have argued that the use of jewellery is none essential and that the scripture did not really prohibit their use. Unfortunately some Bible commentaries have clearly supported this view. This serves as a strong support and calms the consequences of those that use jewellery.

The founding fathers of Christian assemblies taught against the use of jewellery in the light of the scripture to keep their members holy. But when the ministry of these founding fathers and those of their immediate successors passed away by death, leaders of succeeding generation succumbed to pressure from their members and allowed the use of jewellery.

Some pastors had opportunity to travel abroad for ministry, rather than influence the Christians over there, they were influenced and corrupted and they brought the corruption to the church. They ended up lowering the conviction of the scriptures and twisted it as seen today.

There are many reasons why the present day church leaders have derailed from the truth. One major reason is that the founding fathers of such assemblies did not put their conviction and doctrine into writing to make it plain and accessible to other generations. This doctrine was emphasized verbally and when their members ceased hearing of them their conviction faded away.

Again, some scriptural texts on jewellery are not rightly interpreted to members and they become stumbling blocks which made many to lose their conviction on the doctrine.

Others believe that since most people use them, their opinion must be true so they follow them. This is not always the case with Christian doctrine and conviction because few usually are on the truth.

Know that you will be judged alone. Your pastor will not be there to speak for you. Many are in hell crying and wailing with their pastors’ names in their lips for refusing to teach them the truth. Escape for your soul.

Thought for the day: I am responsible for my decision and not my pastor.

TOPIC: ACTIONS OF PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING TO GOD

TEXT: PSALM 35:27-28
27. Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, the Lord be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.
28. And my tongue shall speak of Thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.

KEY VERSE: HEBREWS 13:15...By Him, therefore, let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name.

Praise and thanksgiving to God come from the heart in bubbles of joy that manifest in various ways. The joy of praise and thanksgiving flows from our heart to our mouth, gets formed into articulate words and sounds by our tongue, and comes out through our lips to God and the hearing ears.

The psalmist puts it this way: I will praise the name of God with a song and will magnify Him with thanksgiving. New Testament puts it this way: By Him, therefore, let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks unto His name (Hebrews 13:15)

We can praise God through the following:
(i) Words of praise and thanksgiving
(ii) Songs of praise and thanksgiving.
(iii) Testimonies of praise and thanksgiving (iv) Shouts of praise and thanksgiving.

Praise and thanksgiving to God do not only involve singing, but also speaking of the wonders of God to Him, to ourselves and to others.

The physical body also manifests actions of praise, thanksgiving and worship such as bowing down, kneeling, lying flat on the face, clapping the hands, dancing, raising and waving the hands.

Let the psalmist lead us into a practical expression of praise and thanksgiving to God. We must be apt and lively in the praises of our God. Praise, thanksgiving, and worship are our duty as creatures.

We are saved to praise, thank, and worship God. We are enjoined to make His praise glorious. Sing with all liveliness. Clap your hands with joy in honour to His name and in His praise. Testify boldly to others of His gracious works in your life and in the lives of others.

Let God be glorified in your life by your dynamic praise and thanksgiving. Let others be inspired by your spirit of praise and thanksgiving to the holy God. Teach your family members, the church, and those around you the praise of God, and live the life worthy of His praise.

Thought for the day: Let your praise to God be part of your daily life.

TOPIC: THE GREAT WHITE THRONE JUDGMENT

TEXT: REVELATION 20:11-15
11. And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

KEY VERSE: REVELATION 20:12. “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works”.

God has an agenda for the end time. It will begin with the Rapture. Therefore At the judgment seat of Christ, believers will be rewarded for their works of righteousness on earth. Then will the marriage supper of the Lamb take place.

The great tribulation will be taking place on earth as the Anti-Christ unleashes a reign of terror on the world. At the end of the great tribulation, Christ will return with glorified saints to rule the nations of the earth and to set up his millennial kingdom. It will be a period of peace and social justice as Satan will be bound.

At the second advent of Christ, there will be the battle of Armageddon. Sinners shall be mobilized from the nations of the earth by Satan and his evil spirits, the Antichrist and the false prophets during the great tribulation to oppose Christ. They will be defeated with a terrible and great slaughter by the Lord.

At the end of the millennial reign, there will be resurrection of all sinners that ever lived, known as the second resurrection. They will stand and give account of all their deeds before the Judge who will sit on the Great Throne.

Every evil work, word, intent or purpose entertained that had gone on record in heaven shall be brought into judgment. All who died unrepentant; bearing grudges, harboring malice and hatred; all who committed sin secretly while pretending to be Christians, all the proud and worldly and all who neglected the need for salvation through Christ Jesus will be judged.

They include men and women, young and old of all races, the educated and illiterates who scorned the word of God, the rich, the poor, the compromising businessmen and women, the popular socialites and cult members, self-righteous churchgoers and seekers of sinful pleasures-regardless of whether or not they have heard the gospel message. All these will be cast-spirit, soul and body into the lake of fire.
