Sunday afternoon and you hear the rumble of Harley pipes on the quiet road leading to your home. No one else nearby has a Harley connection so you know you have friends coming to visit. Best surprise of the day.

What do you pack for first aid and emergencies? Years ago, we were on a group ride when one friend signaled to pull over. He had been stung on his neck by a bee. He was not allergic and not in need of medical treatment, but stings still hurt. I had a tube of aloe vera on the bike and after wiping the area with a clean rag and water he used the aloe and it helped.

Last year visiting family my grandson was bitten by a mosquito. He is just like me and gets huge welts that itch for days. He showed me the cabinet his mom kept first aid items in and asked for a small white plunger-type item. He put it over the bite and pulled the plunger back, doing this several times. The itching went away and no swelling. So “Bug Bite Thing” is now a must-have for traveling and can be found at most drug stores and online.

If you are allergic to bee stings, wasp, mosquitos, or you have food allergies, you probably already carry an epi-pen. Please let those you ride with know if bitten or have ingested something you are allergic to you could have a medical emergency and where you keep your epi-pen.

Have you ever had something unexpected happen on a ride and how did you fix it or did you live with it.

We were riding with a group of friends up the middle of Oregon in the heat of the summer. Hot, hot, hot. We finally found a gas stop fill up the bikes and find cold drinks. When I got off the back of the bike, I realized the rubber sole of my Harley boots had delaminated from the leather, caused by the heat coming up off the road. Walking made me look like an old-time silent movie comedy actor.

My friends laughed and then popped into the store and found a tube of quickset glue. So, there I sat on a curb, pressing my shoe down on the asphalt to make sure the sole and the leather bonded with the glue. My husband brought me a cold drink while I waited and by the time we were ready to mount up and ride my boot was no longer flapping around.

After we returned home a Law Enforcement Officer recommended boots that they wear on duty and were about $200 cheaper than a new pair of HD boots. These boots were made for walking…or in this case riding…but they are comfortable too.

Seems like yesterday when we rode with our posse of friends. It was always a good day to ride with this group.

In Washington State, you are allowed to drive for a Dr. appt, and prescriptions, or food. The end. Stay home, wear your mask when you need to go out, the life you save might be your own.

Quarantine…Stay Home…this is how we are living right now and it is a good thing for everyone. When the orders are lifted and it is safe to leave the confines of your home, what is the number one destination on your list to visit?

My first thought was Winthrop, WA for ice cream…haha after four hours on the bike you want lunch and then ice cream before heading home. Just a typical day ride. In our area, Winthrop is probably the number one destination. However, the thought of eating in a crowded restaurant or mingling in the crowded streets of a major tourist town has lost its appeal after living isolated for five weeks now and another four to go, maybe longer.

Probably a ride down Chuckanut Drive, if it is clear, would be a good first of the season ride. Highway 9 and a stop at The Blue Mountain Café is always another alternative; but again for me, I am not ready for crowds. Besides, isn’t that the purpose of the riding, to get away from the hustle and bustle?

So our question to you is where are you going to ride to once you have the option of opening the garage door, rolling out the motorcycle, putting on the leathers and helmet?
