Making experimental cancer treatment decision - Regional Chemotherapy 29/08/2017

Making experimental cancer treatment decision with limited amount of information when a stage-4 cancer patient is running out of time is hard. Treatment options for cancer, including standard and experimental cancer treatments, are not limited to one or two isolated therapies.

Improving Cancer Therapy Benefits: Combining Regional Chemotherapy and Standard Treatments - Regional Chemotherapy 16/08/2017

A distinct advantage of regional chemotherapy in all of its variants is that it increases the concentration of the drugs in the cancer-affected area. Often higher concentration of the drug equates to higher efficacy, improving cancer therapy benefits. Furthermore, regional chemotherapy aims to reduce the exposure of additional tissues to the chemotherapy agents, thus, minimizing the risk of severe adverse effects.

Experimental cancer treatment cost benefit analysis - Regional Chemotherapy 15/08/2017

It is hard to think about the experimental cancer treatment cost for anyone who is fighting a terrible disease like cancer. However, affordability of cancer treatments, and particularly alternative cancer treatments is an important subject.

If standard cancer treatment fails, what’s next? - Regional Chemotherapy 10/08/2017

RCT is not a new treatment protocol. However, in some applications it is an experimental treatment, and very few medical teams can perform such therapies.

Making Hard Decisions Fighting Cancer - Regional Chemotherapy 25/07/2017

Selecting a new treatment option and finding the means to pay for it, are some of the decisions by those who are fighting. Whatever the decisions are, more often than not, they demand hard choices. Furthermore, these choices often have to be made fast, sometimes very fast, while looking into the eyes of ultimate uncertainty.

Making Hard Decisions Fighting Cancer - Regional Chemotherapy Experimental cancer treatments affordability is a big issue. It is inevitable that individuals with cancer will be making hard decisions fighting cancer.

Experimental Cancer Treatment - Regional Chemotherapy 13/07/2017

Because experimental cancer treatments stand outside of standard regiments and treatment protocols, they are usually the last in the line of therapy options. Only when conventional methods of cancer treatment fail, most patients resort to experimental cancer treatments. Despite the status of being experimental, in many cases experimental cancer treatments can be an important resource in the arsenal available to cancer patients. Follow the link below to read more.

Cancer Patient Journey - Regional Chemotherapy 11/07/2017

A cancer patient journey to the right treatment can be defined in five phases. It starts with awareness and recognition phase, and moves to presentation and diagnosis phase. Following those two, are treatment selection phase and access to treatment. Finally, switching and persistence complete the journey and help to ensure its effectiveness.

Cancer Fighting Ninja - Regional Chemotherapy 30/06/2017

Just like the impatient and insubordinate ninja warriors, new cancer treatment therapies suddenly appear hear and there. Just like the insolent ninjas in training, some of these cancer treatments show good strength and results in their fights with cancers. Treating progressive malignant pleural mesothelioma - Regional Chemotherapy 26/06/2017

Regional chemotherapy success in treating deadly cancer.
A recent peer reviewed paper on the use of Isolated Thoracic Perfusion (a form of Regional Chemotherapy) in treating progressive malignant pleural mesothelioma has been published. Progressive malignant pleural mesothelioma is the type of lung cancer with links to asbestos. This cancer is currently considerate incurable and has limited treatment options.
The medical team of Prof. Karl R. Aigner, Dr. Emir Selak and Dr. Sabine Gailhofer have conducted the study at the Department of Surgical Oncology at Medias Klinikum and produced the paper. The paper has been single blind peer reviewed and approved by Dr. Amy Norman and editor Dr. Ingrid Espinoza.

Study: A Multigene Test Could Cost-Effectively Help Extend Life Expectancy for Women at Risk of Hereditary Breast Cancer (seven-gene test).

"An estimate for 2015 predicted 231,840 new cases of breast cancer and 40,290 breast cancer deaths in the USA. Women with a family history of breast cancer are at increased
risk, with about 13% of women with breast cancer having one or more first-degree relatives with the disease.

Pathogenic variants in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes explain approximately 15% of the breast cancer familial relative risk (i.e., the ratio of the risk of an individual with an affected relative to the risk of individuals in the general population), whereas pathogenic variants in other genes, including TP53, PTEN, CDH1, and PALB2, contribute further to the familial relative risk for breast cancer." https://www.ispor.org/economic-evaluaiton_life-expectancy-women_breast-cancer.pdf

Long-term regional chemotherapy for patients with epithelial malignant peritoneal mesothelioma results in improved survival Synopsis: Malignant peritoneal mesothelioma was treated over a 20 year time period with a consistent surgical procedure followed by an escalation of regional chemotherapy treatments. When regional chemotherapy long term was added to the treatment plan survival improved significantly (p = 0.0108).

Intratumoral Cancer Cell Intravasation Can Occur Independent of Invasion into the Adjacent Stroma 09/05/2017

Intravasation is the invasion of cancer cells through the basal membrane into a blood or lymphatic vessel. Intravasation is one of several carcinogenic events that initiate the escape of cancerous cells from their primary sites.
Researchers in California may have discovered why some cancers reoccur after years in remission. In their study they demonstrate how invasive tumors may begin intravasation much earlier than was previously thought.

Intratumoral Cancer Cell Intravasation Can Occur Independent of Invasion into the Adjacent Stroma Deryugina and Kiosses investigate the localization of intravasation within primary tumors. They find that the majority of intravasation events occur within the tumor core and not at the invasive edge within tumor outgrowths into adjacent stroma in the models examined. Mechanistically, EGFR appears t...
