Last Tuesday we had our final session of the Mediterranean Diet Training. Thank you to everyone that attended and a big thank you to Ms. Lataaka Harvey FCS Agent in Calhoun County for partnering with Cleveland County to implement this program. The Mediterranean Diet Plan is a diet that describes a dietary pattern characteristic of those living in regions around the Mediterranean Sea. Although it is called a "diet", the Mediterranean Diet is not about cutting calories and restricting foods like many popular diet trends in America today. Instead, it is a way of life that involves enjoying a wide variety of whole, nourishing foods with friends and family, as well as practicing an active lifestyle. Throughout the 3 sessions, participants prepared a variety of dishes with common foods that blend the Mediterranean style of eating with traditional Southern food culture to help people eat healthier and become more physically active. Adapting this eating style into your everyday life has been proven to help reduce the risk of many chronic diseases and improve outcomes for those living with these conditions. We hope to put this workshop on again in the near future. Your continued support is greatly appreciated!

๐—œ๐—ฆ๐—ฆ๐—จ๐—˜ ๐Ÿฎ - This is a proposed constitutional amendment via the citizen initiative process. Sponsors seek to remove authorization currently in the Arkansas Constitution for a casino to open in Pope County. Issue 2 would void a state license recently issued to operate a casino in Russellville.
If Arkansas voters approve more casino licenses in a future statewide vote, Issue 2 would then require county Quorum Courts to hold local elections on casino operations.
Issue 2 is being challenged in court. The Arkansas Supreme Court is reviewing whether votes cast for or against Issue 2 on Election day will be counted.

Greetings!

We are launching a new program entitled Beginning Farmer Training and Mentoring of Conservation Practices and Partnerships. This program is grant funded and free for participants.

The overall goal of the program is to aid beginning farmers by combining training and mentoring into a certification program focused on increasing beginning farmersโ€™ participation in conservation programs. Farmer participation includes increasing the probability of completing conservation plans and implementing conservation practices. Beginning farmers face many challenges and may benefit from a support network that includes experienced farmers.

A needs assessment survey for mentor and beginning farmers to complete has been developed. We would like to send it to veteran and beginning farmers by October 15th.

If you are willing to do so, please distribute the following link to your county distribution list: https://uaex.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cH2pnBKWQgzj4jA

Attached is a social media post with images if you are willing to share the needs assessment on any of your social media platforms.

If you have an interest in being a part of this grant, including being a host site for future trainings, please contact Keith Harris. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Keith Harris, [email protected].
