The Groton Dunstable Education Foundation (GDEF) is a local, non-profit, volunteer organization which supports all 5 District Schools with grants above and beyond the school budget, directly benefiting GDRSD students! This year we had the privilege of contributing more than $22,000 back into GDRSD, supporting innovative projects and educational opportunities proposed by our dedicated GD teachers and staff. With a few board members moving on at the end of this school year, GDEF is seeking new volunteers to support our mission. GDEF funded a Boutwell grant this year to update dolls, puzzles, games, creative materials, and displays to represent the diversity of students and families in the preschool community and support social-emotional development with interactive hands-on play. We love to hear about the impact of GDEF grants! Karen Gartland sent us this about the Association of Teachers of Mathematics in New England (ATMNE) conference that GDEF sent 11 elementary and middle school mathematics teachers to in October.
"We are more than appreciative of the support given by GDEF, which allowed [us] to attend ... Given an opportunity to hear the latest effective instructional practices from "star-studded" mathematics educators, each left assured that our practices in GDRSD align with national initiatives. Each educator also left with new ideas and resources for enhancing their mathematics instruction. One of the highlights was seeing Alyson C, our MS Math interventionist, beaming as she had her picture taken with Pam Harris, founder of "mathisfigureoutable" (see picture). Alyson is incorporating many of Pam's materials into her course as she uses models and strategies to fill the gaps in students' numerical understanding."

Two weeks until GDEF's July 31st deadline for our next Major Grant awards! If our school staff and teachers have any questions about proposals, don't hesitate to reach out- we are excited to see your new ideas! Check out this photo of the CNC Router in action at GDRHS- funded through a GDEF grant last summer! Students use the machine not only to learn about manufacturing and prototyping techniques, but to enhance their ability to create custom precision parts for GD robotics.
