Every year brings different seasonal combinations which test our resilience in managing the olive grove without resorting to the quick fix of artificial inputs. Most of the time we get through with a reasonable yield and a manageable workload. This season spanning 2023 and 2024 has proved by far the most challenging.

The African (Olea Africana) and European (Olea Europaea) olive trees are as horticulturally divergent as the cultures in South Africa. It was fantastic to present the Extra Virgin Olive Oil Savantes programme in person again for the first time since March 2020! We were also very excited to introduce the Savantes Savourgram for the first time (visit the website for more information).
An event to launch Ateek Olive Oil, produced from ancient trees of rare Olive Variety Al Mehrasn, which took place in the presence of Their Excellencies Jordanian Minister of Agriculture, Jordanian Minister of Tourism as well as Ambassador to the Netherlands.
The event was organized by JOPEA (Jordan Olive Exporters Association) and Mercy Corp where Tala Saket, Silver Associate and Honorary member of the Savantes Register gave an independent tasting session to the Audience, who were then given the Ateek Olive oil to taste by the association.

Tala Saket, Savante from Jordan, has presented the Savantes 'Alphabet of Aroma' at a seminar for chefs at the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts in Amman, Jordan.
In the post pandemic era we are encouraging Savantes to conduct regional Savante-associated sessions or events and congratulate Tala on being the first to do so. The interaction in the photographs shows the success of the exercise which is designed to highlight the attractive and evocative aromas of extra virgin olive oil.
The session came under the InCelebration of olive oil campaign happening in Jordan over the next few months.
