A Group for residents of Porthtowan to share information & photos about the manufactured man-made dunes at the back of the beach and to make sure all residents are fully involved in their management !! This page ties in with a Yahoo Groups website/page -
where you can find alot more information about what is happening to this a
rea in our lovely village Porthtowan. I established this Group with support from lots of other village residents and businesses who are unhappy with the way our lovely beach and dunes area has deteriorated over the past 10 years. Many village groups and others are involved including Cornwall Council, Porthtowan Village Hall, Porthtowan Community Committee, our Youth Group etc and many individual residents . I wanted to provide a forum for everybody who is interested in the dunes area and beach at Porthtowan to share their views and opinions about the potential uses and management of the dunes to the rear of our lovely village beach. Sadly the dunes which were once a lovely feature of our village are now a blot on the landscape, safety issues are paramount - old wire fencing, windbreaks, broken down chestnut paling fences, stakes and rubbish from bonfires and encampments make the dunes a dangerous place for children, dogs and people just wanting to sit down and enjoy our wonderful beach. Please feel free... to add any comments, make any observations, give suggestions....... if you have any questions please get in touch with me and ask . The idea is to make sure that in the future, those of us who live in the Village and try to look after the beach and the local environment will have the greater say in how the Dunes are managed, what money is spent on them and how the community can use them
Please have a look at the photos - from the links in the left hand side of this page and see whether you think the area has changed since the new dunes were built and established in the 1960's. We have acquired a lot of information from people who know about how the dunes came into being and when and why they were built. If you can add to this history or you have any photos or stories which would help with the records we are trying to build up then please let me know, either through this page or direct to my email at... [email protected]
Thanks very much - I hope you enjoy the photos, please join in the debate.
