The AANAPISI hats are back! 🔥🔥
UIC AANAPISI Initiative is thrilled to mark this milestone for UIC!! The grant is helping to jumpstart AASAP, as a Title III Strengthening Institutions grant should, and UIC will sustain it when the grant ends.
The new unit with phenomenal inaugural staff are making a difference already for our students!! Thank you Asian American Student Academic Program!
Our students focused on an important issue in their MAASU conference presentation. Congrats!
Congress must continue to invest–not cut–funding to AANAPISIs. Federal funds will ensure that AANAPISIs continue to support the success of first generation AANHPI students with low incomes and change the trajectory of their lives. To take action in support of AANAPISIs, check out the AANAPISI Week toolkit at https://bit.ly/AANAPISI2023

Inequitable funding limits the number of institutions that are able to provide targeted supports and programs to first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented AANHPI students. Congress must fund AANAPISIs in order to promote equity in higher education, access to college, and opportunities for underrepresented AANHPI students.

AANHPI students are not a monolith! AANHPIs are a highly diverse and fast-growing community, with AANHPI college students coming from a variety of identities, backgrounds, many with lower incomes, immigration experiences, or being the first in their family to attend college.

From September 25–October 1, we celebrate Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions with AANAPISI Week! AANAPISIs are critical in supporting AANHPI student success by promoting equity in higher education, access to college, and opportunities for low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented AANHPI students.
This week is National AANAPISI Week. Here's a quick look at the milestones of the UIC AANAPISI Initiative since 2010!
🎓 Today, President Joe Biden issued the first-ever proclamation on National Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions Week to honor the AANAPISI program’s essential role in empowering generations of underserved AA and NHPI students.
"By putting higher education within reach of AA and NHPI students, our Nation’s nearly 200 AANAPISIs embody my belief that diversity is our strength as a Nation... may we recommit to supporting these institutions as they raise the next generation of AA and NHPI dreamers and doers."
