We came into 2020 with great expectations. These expectations were appropriate and earned through hard work, sacrifice and total family commitment.
While yesterday's news that the season had been cancelled did not come as a shock, it was still a gut punch that left the most hollow of feelings.
In every year until now, sports seasons end in one of two ways: a terrific celebration or, more commonly, by being eliminated by a better team. We have been very fortunate to end our past two seasons with celebratory dog piles. Moments that will be cherished forever. But this year, neither will happen...and that lack of closure is what makes it so tough.
We of course feel particularly bad for the 2020 seniors. But not just them. We feel for every player in our program. We feel for the softball girls, for the track & field athletes, the swimmers and divers, for the boys golf team, and all of their families.
We feel for every student athlete that has invested hours of sacrifice only to see their seasons ended by something completely out of anyone's control.
We want to thank and honor our 2020 seniors. Ethan Lamb, Brian McClellin, Bradley Taylor, Derek Williams, Michael Benevides, David Rodriguez, Jackson Dinsdale, Konner McClellin, Andrew Edmonds, Andrew Boele, Michael Brown, Cody Hume, Nick Strong, Caleb Davis, Sam Bridge, Kenny DeCelle and Jered Breedwell. Your senior season was cut short, but you will always be part of the Bulldog Baseball Family. The best is yet to come for all of you.
Lastly, we are asking all of you reading this - family, friends, proud alums - to support the Signs for Grads" fundraiser, which will not only celebrate to class of 2020, but also help stock the refrigerators of local hospitals, police departments and fire stations.

UPDATE - CIF 2020 Spring Sports Season - California Interscholastic Federation SACRAMENTO, CALIF. – Today the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Office and the 10 Section Commissioners held their annual scheduled spring meeting. The agenda included a discussion concerning the impact of COVID-19 on the 2020 CIF spring sports season.
Bulldog Baseball Families,
Coach Clary contacted the CIF/SJS office for dual participation clarification and attended a VHS staff meeting this morning.
According to Deputy Commissioner Will DeBoard, only playing in a contest is a violation. Practicing and workouts are not a violation. The gray area that concerns us is “scrimmages” and/or “controlled scrimmages”. It is VHS baseball’s recommendation to not participate if there is a second team/organization involved
With regard to today’s staff meeting, your teachers will be teaching out to you very soon, via Loop Mail, regarding academics over the next couple of weeks.
Looking forward, the ten CIF section commissioners will be meeting tomorrow. We will continue to update you as events unfold.
Meanwhile, we’re all in this together. Please stay safe, with the CDC guidelines in mind.
Bulldog Baseball Families,
Please be aware that we are in a very fluid and unprecedented situation.
The directive to teachers and coaches across the district is that staff - that includes all coaches, paid or volunteer cannot meet (in person) with students for the next two weeks. This means no official practices.
Further, it is a violation of the CIF dual participation rule to compete with an outside team or organization. We already getting reports of students participating with non-school organizations across the region. There is some confusion as to what constitutes participation, and if “workouts” are or are not permissible
WE ARE RECOMMENDING HOLDING OFF ON ANY BASEBALL WORKOUTS UNTIL COACH CLARY CAN GET CLEAR GUIDANCE FROM THE SECTION, HOPEFULLY ON MONDAY.
An update will be posted as soon as more information becomes available.
Thank you.
