The northern hemisphere Autumn Equinox - is one of two days during the year when day and night are most nearly equal everywhere on earth. There will be less daylight than nighttime each day now...that is, until the March Spring Equinox.

We are off on a nature walk today over at Evergreen Forest School & Outdoor Learning. If you would like to do one yourself, I have attached the template we are using today.

I had great fun today making positivity jars with my online group and my forest school group Evergreen Forest School & Outdoor Learning.
Each jar was unique!
They were fabulous and 'jam' packed with positive words and comments, for them to look at every day for a few minutes, to remind them how special and positive they are as a person.

World Bee Day 2020: What's all the buzz about? - CBBC Newsround It's World Bee Day on 20 May, so let's take a look at why bees are so important to life on planet Earth.

So a lot of schools have been setting work for children to do at home with the expectation of parents providing the support. Educational companies have been offering access to their online resources for parents to use with their children for home access to support their learning. The government are now saying that along with some children expected to return to school in June they want teaching and learning to carry on throughout what would have been the summer holidays.
Personally, there are problems with all of this!

*Although teachers study/train for 3-4 years (includes degree if a PGCE qualified) in order to teach and then have to successfully complete an NQT year and are classed as RQT's for 5 years. In addition, they have to attend further training and professional development courses throughout their teaching careers.
* It's worthwhile noting that a lot of the resources used in schools to support the different areas of the curriculum require specialist training (which costs thousands by the way, payable to private educational companies out of school budgets).
Nonetheless, some parents are being asked to provide these lessons at home with no training or support: not even a group zoom meeting!
As for private educational companies offering some of their resources for free. Again where is the support? A few short videos! Not enough! Especially, when the helplines are not being manned and emails not being answered!
*As for sending children back to school 🀦
I say test run it with the politicians first. I want to see 15 of them (Micky Gove, Dom Cummings & Boris included) along with the children who have been attending school throughout this, sat in 3 classrooms (45 if a 1 form entry school, 90 if 2 form entry, 135 if 3 form entry, figures maybe higher if schools already have children who have been attending throughout) and let them experience a school day (how they reckon it should be done) repeatedly for 2 weeks and see what the 'R' number is then.
Remember, schools haven't been closed throughout this, most teachers and support staff have worked throughout with no Easter holiday break or Bank holidays! They have been keeping vulnerable children & children of Key workers occupied safely with NO PPE!
**Parents, and that's what you are at the end of the day is a parent. You are doing a good job. No in fact a great job!
Most children do not need their days mapped out like a school day in order to learn; if that is what your school is expecting then let them provide daily zoom sessions. Children are learning all the time. Children learn in so many different ways. A 10-15 minute blast at a time, of any subject is enough.
Hug your kids, have fun with your kids. Our kids and OUR mental health is so important.
Stay safe & Be kind

My Hero is You

We read this book today and discussed a lot of things as we read it. It is available to download as a pdf from the weblink below.
I must admit I got quite emotional towards the end and my lovely nine-year son rubbed and patted my back and said, ' What's up mum? Are you OK? Don't worry everything will be OK.'
He is my Hero.

This book was a project developed by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Reference Group on Mental Health
and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings (IASC MHPSS RG). The project was supported by global, regional
and country-based experts from Member Agencies of the IASC MHPSS RG, in addition to parents, caregivers, teachers and children in 104 countries.

The book is available in lots of different languages.

The book should be read by a parent, caregiver, or teacher alongside a child or a small group of children. It is not
encouraged for children to read this book independently without the support of a parent, caregiver, or teacher. The supplementary guide called β€œActions for Heroes” (to be published later) offers support for addressing topics related to COVID-19, helping children manage feelings and emotions, as well as supplementary activities for children to do based on the book.

Before anyone says anything, the first thing we discussed was the safe distance apart. The book states 1m but we talked about it being approximately 2m's

Thought you might like to take a look at one of the activities we did today.
The task was to construct something with cardboard and write out the instructions so someone else could make it.
We decided to make a small 3D elephant.
We used a piece of cardboard, a pen, a pair of scissors and a writing frame template to support the planning and writing of the instructions.

I came across this today and thought that it was a lovely creative mindful activity to do.
I remember doing this years ago with my eldest when she was little and we sent it to her grandma, who still has it all these years later.
Also you don't need to stand in line at the post office for some stamps you can pay your postage online. Weigh your large letter, pay, print off the postage label, stick it on then envelope and pop in the post box.
Just through doing this simple activity together you have covered so many areas of the curriculum. 😊

Love this. Everyone can do this and achieve fabulous results 😊

Lockdown math announcement 17/04/2020

Starts tonight 8pm

If you have older kids, or just want to brush up on maths yourself this is a great opportunity.

Grant Sanderson is probably the most brilliant maths teacher I've ever encountered. Most of what he does is higher level mathematics explained in fun ways but he is about to start livestreaming twice weekly for high school students who are obviously missing out.

It'll be 8pm Tues & Fri.

If you are not already using a Pearson teaching platform or you only have limited resources on one of their platforms. They are allowing access to all of their resources.
If you need me to explain or show you how to use them, let me know. (That's what I do 😊)
They are great for home learning and keeping a track of what has been completed.
