SWIPE LEFT! What a phenomenal set of keynote speakers for the Kyria Scotland this year. Tara Devlin has worked for a variety of UK based charities as well as serving with an inner city project in Kingston, Jamaica with her husband Adrian. Tara now works on the staff team of her local church, St. Mungo’s in Balerno, Edinburgh.
Andi Russell’s 30-year-career has seen her work in both the media and global NGO sector, which has taken her into some of the world’s poorest countries and challenging, volatile environments. In 2010 she co-founded the public relations agency Jersey Road PR. Andi is currently the founder and lead coach of Alabaster Coaching she has developed a unique, bespoke one-to-one matricentric, developmental, trauma-informed coaching service for justice-involved mothers.

The theme for the conference is ‘change’. We live in a time of change whether that be culturally, politically, socially or personally but Jesus never changes. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. As Christian female leaders, in all spheres of leadership, we want to continue to respond to changes in the steadfast way Jesus did. At the conference, through our keynote speakers, conversations, interviews and networking we will be exploring this together. We already have people signed up so make sure you get your ticket booked to make the most of the early bird discount!

Our next Leadership and Menopause focus is particularly for church leaders, both male and female. Our aim is to provide a space for leaders to come and learn so they can understand the issues around menopause more. As Kyria continues to advocate for women leaders in a holistic way, part of the process is about helping the Church to be accountable for women in their life journey. If, however, the Church is not your major leadership context, this evening will still encourage you in ways to help and learn.

Join Jo and Karen as they impart the insights that come from their experience and training, along with the spiritual formation they have nurtured in that arena. Their knowledge and teaching, along with the space they create, will encourage leaders who are supporting and advocating for women in any season of menopause, or who are in this season themselves.

Our blog this month is written by our Board Member Olivia Amartey. Olivia is the Executive Director for Elim Pentecostal Churches UK, Kyria Board Member, Board of Essential Christian, Speaker and Leadership Coach.

Olivia writes. . . "As women, and certainly as women leaders, whether in ministry or the marketplace, we sometimes take the default posture of ‘shrinking to fit’. We prefer to wait until someone else, whom we believe to be more gifted than we, fills the void that may very well be perfectly equipped for. If we would only be emboldened to attempt it." fans We love to shout about other organisations who are championing women and leading the way to bring light in equity.

swipe left ⬅️does just that!

We are so impressed with Katy and her bold vision to bring the first NIV audio Bible, voiced entirely by women from across the UK.

Revd Katy Partridge writes, “In 2017, there were no quality audio Bibles voiced by women that were free. Now, between 700-800 audio Bibles have been recorded across the world and, so far, only 8 have been recorded fully in women’s voices. Her Audio Bible UK will be the first NIV audio Bible voiced fully by women from across the UK, and seeks to represent something of the beauty of the diversity we have in the UK”
Revd Katy Partridge (Director of Her Audio Bible UK)

We are thrilled to support and endorse this developing work, and you can too! Why not give them a follow? Check out the website? Listen in? Pray for them, or write an encouraging comment to them today?

Better still, consider financially supporting their important work today!

Join this movement, so that women can not only see themselves in scripture, but hear their voice too!

19/07/2024

"Who are we listening to? Like me, have you fallen for listening to the voices of rush? Or have you stopped to listen to the voice of the Father? Stopping to listen can feel like a waste of our precious time when we feel rushed, but I would argue that is exactly what we need to do if we want to lead like Jesus.
Could you find some time to tune out the voice of those who need us and to listen again to the Father? What is His response to the pressing needs? How does He want us to respond? What does He want us to do? Where does He want us to go?"

This is so good and needed to be said 💪👍👊🙏❤️Cathy Madavan

Well said William, Prince of Wales (his message to Gareth Southgate is BELOW my article here. The following words are mine and not those of HRH!).

I'm no football expert. I'm not sure I could identify between a foul and a decent tackle and I know almost nothing about playing formations. But I loved watching England's men play and was proud of them as a team.

But while I was disappointed but not personally devastated that we lost, I am truly heartsick when I see decent leaders who are people of integrity bullied and berated continually. Why oh why do we promote and applaud those who behave badly but behave so badly towards those who serve and lead diligently and humbly, changing culture for the better?

I've watched as fans have thrown literal cups of vitriol at Gareth Southgate and as journalists, pundits and social media trolls have thrown figurative ones. Can you imagine any other circumstance where this track record would not be appreciated? Second best violinist in the world (or Europe)? Second biggest charity in the world? Second best golfer in the world? And from a standing start? Is second really failure?

And has he been a diligent and skilled leader of integrity? Has he been kind? Has he empowered and focused on the skills of others? Has he changed a rotten culture? Has he given people a belief and a reason to care again? Has he led with empathy out of personal experience as well as ability and training?

Nothing hurts me these days like watching good leaders (or others) in any context getting beaten up by people who either a) should know better or b) don't know better but should have the self-awareness to know they don't.
Perfection is not possible in a leader or in anyone. Scrutiny and accountability are one thing but bullying, criticising and cancelling are another. And it breaks my heart.

Gareth Southgate doesn't need my applause today, but if I could give it to him, I would:

Thank you Gareth for modelling something really decent about leadership, in the midst of constant criticism instead of support. Thank you for defining success as not just winning the game but winning in how you conduct yourself. You know that who you are is more important than what you do and any accolades you may enjoy. You'll be understandably disappointed that you didn't win, but you're no loser from where I'm sitting. I hope you will be given the credit you deserve now you have stepped aside to allow somebody else to build on the foundations you have laid.

Giving thanks today for all the decent, diligent leaders in every arena who keep going against all the odds or who step down feeling beaten up and exhausted.

(Please leave any comments about how he needed a more attacking approach and should have brought on certain players somewhere else! Not the point of the post.)

A Message from HRH The Prince of Wales to Mr Gareth Southgate OBE:

“Gareth,
I want to thank you - not as the President of the FA, but as an England fan.
Thank you for creating a team that stands shoulder to shoulder with the world’s finest in 2024. Thank you for showing humility, compassion, and true leadership under the most intense pressure and scrutiny.
And thank you for being an all-round class act. You should be incredibly proud of what you’ve achieved.
William”

We love these posters from Project Violet and this one featuring our good gifted and awesome friend and leader Gilmour in Scotland! 👊💪❤️

Samara writes. . . "So often in our leadership, we can be reactive to the demands and the pressure of what we see before us. We extend ourselves to 'be the answer', often ending up frazzled and burnt out in the process. But Jesus does not model this reactive leadership to us. His invitation for us is to lead whilst listening to the Father and to follow what He is saying and doing, over the noise of the needs"
