There are more than 3 million breast cancer survivors in the world.

But what can a woman do to reduce her risk of developing breast cancer or prevent a recurrence of the disease?

According to Dr. Susan Tannenbaum, chief of oncology at UConn Health's Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center, good nutrition, diet, and exercise are the key ingredients to achieving a healthier you to help prevent the disease from returning after breast cancer treatment, or to prevent it from developing in the first place.

"If you can lower your risk factors for breast cancer, which are mostly the same ones for preventing cardiovascular disease, it's huge for your chances of cancer prevention," says Tannenbaum. "We must return to basics and follow a daily prescription of a healthy diet and exercise to prevent cancer."

Breast self-exams to check for lumps and other changes can help women detect the early signs of cancer.

Even more important than looking for specific changes is knowing how your breasts feel normally. A change in their shape or texture, a new lump, or other significant change could signal a problem, including cancer.

Women should also get regular breast exams from their doctor. Those at high risk of breast cancer may need annual mammograms, although teens almost never fall into this category.

Overweight women should be screened for breast cancer more frequently as they have a greater chance of rapidly developing hard-to-treat tumours, a new study shows.

An investigation revealed that those with a BMI of 25 or above were more likely to be diagnosed with tumours two centimeters or larger – the threshold between stage one and stage two cancers – than women of a healthy weight.

Let those who has ears, hear, see and read the information am passing through.
