Here's Why COVID-19 or Coronavirus Is Worse Than We Thought | Leapfrogging Success Are you feeling confused as to why Coronavirus (or COVID-19) is receiving so much attention and is a bigger deal than how we react to seasonal flu?
Being over 50 isn’t too late to get in shape. Here’s a look at myths you should never believe about fitness at mid-life.
The one thing to remember is that you’re never too old to start exercising.
“There is no expiration date on our body’s ability to benefit from physical activity,” says Alice Bell, PT, DPT, a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Geriatric Physical Therapy, and American Physical Therapy Association spokeswoman.
“Studies show that individuals who adopt an active lifestyle at any age can demonstrate improvements in strength, endurance, balance, and cognitive performance.”
Plus, you might soon come to love fitness.

Just thinking you have poor endurance genes changes your body.
If you want to win a race or stick to a difficult diet, coaches of all kinds will tell you it’s all about “mind over matter.”
But that advice rarely crosses over into the medical community, where an inborn ability—or risk—is thought to depend more on genes and environment than on mindset.
Now, in a study examining what may be a novel form of the placebo response, psychologists have found that just telling a person they have a high or low genetic risk for certain physical traits can influence how their body functions when exercising or eating, regardless of what genetic variant they actually have.

Just thinking you have poor endurance genes changes your body New study suggests our minds can influence our physiology as much as our genes
There is a fine line between hobby and mental illness and many a runner has crossed it. - Dean Karnazes
“Most people never get there.
They're afraid or unwilling to demand enough of themselves and take the easy road, the path of least resistance.
But struggling and suffering, as I now saw it, were the essence of a life worth living.
If you're not pushing yourself beyond the comfort zone, if you're not constantly demanding more from yourself--expanding and learning as you go--you're choosing a numb existence.
You're denying yourself an extraordinary trip.”
― Dean Karnazes, Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner

Running with Soaring Eagle makes the need to monitor completely unnecessary.
Every few seconds, Soaring Eagle’s eyes are darting down to monitor and observe the time, pace, and distance.
Instinctively he chirps aloud whatever metrics happen to catch his fancy.
Sometimes something really interesting must catch his eye… like a fresh fish in the cool and dark waters of the fall Mississippi!

Today I am writing about exhaustion from a week of spreadsheets at work and trying to average 50 mile weeks running to hit my goal of 2,018 miles in 2018!
This week also included Halloween costume building, and courage to be a nut at my workplace, as well as finishing with a PR at the Hixon 50K Trail Run.

No matter how educated or realistic you are, there are probably still things that you just refuse to believe, although deep down you probably know they’re true.
I want to share a good dose of reality with you today, because if we are not realistic with ourselves, we can’t achieve realistic goals with physical, mental, or spiritual aspirations.
These facts may seem difficult to swallow, but doing so will only make your life easier in the long run. And it will be far easier to swallow than those Brussels Sprouts you’ve been avoiding all of your life.
Here we go.

9 Fallacies Of Getting And Staying Fit And How To Have The Right Mindset - REAL LIFE WARRIORS Did you ever talk to someone about fitness and right away, they look at you like they just sucked on a lemon? What is so bad about exercise?

That's what happens when I try to get back into 5K racing again after a year and a half of recovering from a painful knee injury.
Nobody ever said running was easy, especially competitive running with people that are half my age and even younger.
I have a lot of work ahead of me if I want to achieve the same level of competitive running success that I saw in 2014, when I ran a Boston qualifying Grandma's marathon in Duluth, as well as a bunch of 5K's in the 18-19 minute range.
But I'll get there.
As sure as the sky is blue and the grass is green, I will get there.
It just takes one foot in front of the other, along with lots of patience, focused training, appropriate rest, and being kind to my aging body.
I am ready! Let's do it!
Whoever says a 50 year old can't win a competitive race is dead wrong.
On Saturday, October 6, 2018, I entered a community 5K run with the goal of coming in first overall and winning the grand prize.
..and it worked!
All that hard work all summer putting in long miles in the hot sun and humid air, to increase my cardio endurance.
All the strength training with weights, chin ups, push ups, crunches, and planks to increase my core strength.
All the speed work with intervals, tempo runs, and sprints to increase my leg speed, turnover, and VO2 max.
I ran hard for the entire distance, and it paid off!
Here I am with a HUGE check for $100 and a trophy (also got a real cash prize for $100).
I guess you could call me a professional runner now. ;)
It was a pretty good day!
If you build up your strength, speed, and mindset, you can do this too!
