FlaT, born Faisal Lateef, is a 21-year-old artist who writes and produces most of his music from start to finish. He uses this method to enhance the correlation between an artist's perspective and his aesthetic sound. FlaT started his career by producing the works of Orlando rapper E.T. producing and mixing two mixta
pes (Straight Out The Keg 2007 and MLK (2008). From the drawling bass sound FlaT derived from his Trapmusic roots, FlaT developed his own conceptual sound. Relying heavily on synth strings, vocal tuning and hip-hop drums FlaT constructed his first compilation "The O" in 2009. The project did not receive much exposure and FlaT himself claims that he was "young and too determined to do something completely new". The album was inspired by Kanye's 808 and Heartbreaks album and was completely produced by FlaT and mixed by Urb Tactics. During this time FlaT was also producing and recording for Gainesville reggae band, Half Track which is now dismantled. FlaT released his second album Heavens Doorstep early 2011 through Freshboy Promotions. FlaT produced and recorded the album over the span of a year. The album's single "Tiger Woods" was featured on I-Tunes and tracks off the album were heard on various Unsigned Hype mixtapes. The album was promoted extensively on the worldwide web and received reception from listeners abroad from Sweden to Japan. Though its singles enjoyed much popularity, the actual project struggled to earn downloads and establish any longevity. FlaT took a break from his own music to produce Nu South artist, C Good's album "Neon Tiger". He released one mixtape called 'Thinking Aloud' before working on his latest project "The Standstill" which was released Fall 2011. "The Standstill" is FlaT's most mature and professional work to date, taking the production to another level with the use of extensive vocal melody samples. FlaT also ditched vocal tuning and focused more on rapping than singing, though the project still carries lots of catchy melodies like any FlaT project would. The single "INDEPENDENCE DAY" was well received by fans and hailed as the best song from FlaT's collection. FlaT also released a short House/Dub project entitled "Blue House". FlaT was born in North Jersey and his parents are both from India. He is also an aspiring lawyer and freelance fictional writer. FlaT is a Muslim and often expresses issues and themes of faith in his music. FlaT quotes, "I know it's weird to see someone that looks like me, coming from my background, as a musical artist in this genre, but I want to surpass the boundaries of stereotype and create music that me and the people around me in my generation would want to hear." FlaT lives in Gainesville, Florida, attending The University of Florida. He is the owner and Executive Producer of a production company called Nu South with best friend Andrew Girges (@AGirges). The company specializes in hip hop production housing talented producers such as Risky Beats. The company is currently working on projects with some of Orlando's most notable artists by the likes of Andrew Floyd (@FloydSays) and Niko Is (@nikohigh). EMAIL ME FOR PRODUCTION/COLLAB: [email protected] My music is very lucid and I love experimenting with an eclectic variety of sounds because I am a producer before an artist. My projects are one cohesive sound because I make my own instrumentals and construct songs and lyrics through the production process. I'm not just a kid with some lyrics on my phone rapping to some local producers beat. Miles away from generic you will find FlaT.
