Chicory is used in a variety of culinary applications around the world, most commonly with coffee. It is occasionally also added during the beer-brewing process to inject a coffee-like flavor. The leaves can be boiled or eaten raw in salad or with pasta. Chicory is also a simple livestock fodder. In European folklore, the small blue flowers could be used to magically open locked doors

Perennial sowthistle is a w**d that grows in the northeastern, central, and western United States and Texas. It grows along roadsides, railroad tracks, and other disturbed areas. It is listed as an invasive w**d species in New Hampshire, several Midwestern states, and many western states including California and Alaska. It is listed as a noxious w**d in Alaska and is prohibited by law there.
