NEWS AND PRODUCT REVIEW;
Just finished my certification with the Outdoor Council of Canada for the "Field Leader - Winter", Yeah Me! This is an add on to my already completed cert for "Field Leader, Hiking". Now I can lead 4 season hikes in class 1 terrain.

Next, I'm looking into the accreditation as an Interpretive Guide, these are dreams coming true for me! I'm hitting a big birthday this year so I can definitely tell you "you're never to old" to follow a dream!

The photos are from a little hike this past week to Troll Falls in Kananaskis, and a beautiful day for it!

I was checking out the Gregory Deva 60 backpack. What I do like about this pack is how it opens up, it can either be a top load or you can unzip the front like a suitcase. Makes for easy access to everything in the bag. I didn't like the harness system as much as the Aura 50 though (at least for me), the Anti-Gravity system of that bag is the best I've experienced in a backpack. The Deva 60 will carry a bit more, so for a 1 or 2 night stay, if you don't have the option of splitting gear with someone else, the Deva might work out for you.

Enough about packs, I'll venture into layering or even footwear next... if anyone has something specific they would like to hear about, don't hesitate to ask!

Off on another adventure tomorrow and checking out another backpack... Gregory's Deva60
Stay tuned for another product review

CABIN FEVER & PRODUCT REVIEW... Is anyone else glad to be out of the February deep freeze? It will still be a little while before Alberta sees real signs of spring but the sunshine and vast blue sky makes me pretty happy!

I use to get cabin fever by the end of winter until I discovered snowshoeing and winter hiking. Downhill skiing can be so expensive and many people don't like the "technical" aspect of cross country skiing. If you can walk, you can snowshoe and Kananaskis has done a really good job of putting in some great snowshoe trails.

I'm also lucky to have access to some different products to try out, I took advantage of that this past week to check out the Osprey Aura 50 backpack. It's probably a bit big for most that just want a good day pack for hikes, I tried it out to see how well it carried things for when I'm leading hikes. It's also a good choice if you want to do a 1 or 2-day overnight trip.

It has some great features but what I really like is the Fit-on-the-Fly hip belt and the AG (Anti-gravity) suspension. The hip belt can extend so us women who actually have hips can have the belt fit right. I wasn't to sure at first about the AG suspension, it's looks and feels very different then other backpack suspension systems (harnesses) but wow, I really fell in love with it. You hardly know you're carrying any weight. I'll try out a few more packs before I make a decision but this pack could be a front runner.

If you have questions about getting outside for wellness, hiking or gear just give a holler.

New for Circles of Nature; Coming this Spring 11/02/2019

New for Circles of Nature; Coming this Spring I have always wanted to expand my Coaching into nature walks and hikes. I'm not a hard core hiker (scrambles and climbing) but I have experienced some pretty amazing places in the Canadian Rockies....

Feel the connection and recharge

Wow... apologies, between school, work and well... sometimes rural internet doesn't work so good, I've been off FB for a little bit.
๐ŸŒŸBut I am now one of the newest graduates of the Outdoor Council of Canada "Feild Leader" course. I'm certified to lead hikes in class 1 terrain. I spent 2 nights walking around Bowness Park, in the dark, with a full pack on. I haven't put that much stuff in my pack in a long time ๐Ÿคช The photo is looking across the Bow River back towards the skate shack at Bowness Park and Olympic Park up on the hill. Luckily we got this all done before this lovely weather set in!
I had a great time, met some beautiful people and now I can't wait to show others what I love about going into nature!

New Study: Women Live Longer If They Live Surrounded By Nature According to a new study, when women live in nature they live longer. The confirmed hypothesis of a research is that natural environments help reduce the stress and increase physical and social activity, which keeps people healthier. The main purpose of this study was to get insights on the relation...

More Ribbon Creek with Martin and the Hardy B's.... such a great way to start a day

Beautiful day Sunday for a walk in the quiet forest. Joanne, Lorraine & Marty hiking Ribbon Creek in Kananaskis.

Weather rarely keeps Martin and his Hardy B's from an early morning walk... and then you hang out in the back of the truck, finish your coffee and have a chickadee land on your boot๐Ÿ˜€
Unfortunately my little feathered friend didn't stick around long enough for a picture ๐Ÿฆ

Hello, my name is Lorraine and I am a bit of a nature nut. For a long while now I've thought about how I can share my love of nature with women. Women who maybe haven't had much exposure to wandering around in the amazing landscapes that Alberta has to offer.

This isn't about slogging up a mountain or traversing an ice field, it's about discovering just how amazing it feels when you get out of the city crazies!

If you live in the neighbourhood of Airdrie or Calgary, and are interested in getting out for some fresh air, quiet and good company, please follow us on FB.

My plan, I would like to get together with interested women and see what everyone would like to do. I am not a guide but I have spent a fair bit of time playing outside so if you're not sure about what's needed to get started, I can help.

Oh, and don't worry about winter coming, snowshoeing is a hoot!
