Autism League has been developed by the inspiration of parents with a 7 year old child who was diagnosed with Autism at the age of two.
This group involves parents to participate and encourage their children to play a sport, learn to understand the rules and listen to instructions but also have fun and to develop friendships with other children on the spectrum. We encouraged him to participate in a range of different activities from Football to Karate to encourage him to be part of a team, respect rules of the games, listen to ins
tructions and have fun with fellow team mates outside of school. Evan struggled with focusing and listening but with dedication we kept on encouraging Evan to play football through its entire season (and scoring a try!!). We knew he wasn't interested in playing another season of Football so we focused on finding another sport. But what was missing was the knowledge from coaches and team officials on the understanding of autism and also the patience. In Brisbane there is a lack of sporting groups focusing of children with Autism. Siblings are encouraged to come and be involved to help their sister/brother and to have fun too. It's a common ground for siblings of autistic children to miss out on activities and attention due to the high demand from the autistic child. It's a great place for all children in your family to be involved and it's a great way for parents to spend time with all their children in a fun and relax atmosphere. We are parents wanting to meet other families and to play sports and do different activities with other children on the spectrum ages from 3-10. Autism League is based at Redlands, Brisbane Bayside. Our group has just been founded so we are taking details of anyone who is interested. We are wanting to find out what days and times would suit best. We will only operate Saturday or Sunday
So if you're interested please email us and what you would like to get out of this group. All feedback is welcome because this group is about everyone.
