Got to go to a pre-screening of The Boys in the Boat on Friday. Good movie, worth seeing, especially if you are, or were, a rower. It follows the book pretty well, I was impressed with that. The rowing scenes are quite good, they made sure the actors actually learned how to row and it shows. However, without spoiling it for those who have yet to see it, I just wish they had filmed some of it here in Seattle vs. filming it all in England. Seattle Met (https://www.seattlemet.com/arts-and-culture/2023/12/boys-in-the-boat-movie-seattle-uw) has a really good review that pretty much voices my sentiments - recommend reading their review, it's better than anything I might have to say. Bottom line - the storyline makes the movie worth seeing - go see it.

I don't know where the other SU Rowing Almuni were, but I spent Sunday morning watching the SU Women and Men compete in the Head of the Lake through the Montlake Cut. Spent some time with my friend and teammate Emily Buck-Schmidt and her dad. Then I took some food to men so they could replace some calories after a long race. Emily and Meghan Ricci took food to the women too. It was a great morning.

Spent Saturday morning (Oct 14th) with the SU Women as they get ready for Head of the Lake on November 5th.

SURF is planning to provide food for the rowers, women and men, at their boathouses and we plan to be at the Montlake Cut cheering on both the women and men during the regatta.

We would love to see you there too.

This weekend I had the privilege of attending the Renton Rowing Center Evening on the Docks fundraiser. Nice evening met some nice folks, and had nice meal.

What you may, or may not know is that the Renton Rowing Center's Executive Director is Rachel Wong, an SU Rowing alum.

Under Rachel's leadership, they were able to raise over $60K. Which is outstanding.

If you know Rachel, drop her a line and say congrats. Better yet, make a donation.

I also happened to meet a young woman who will be joining the SU Women next fall. So helping junior rowing programs like RRC, could mean new recruits for SU Rowing - just saying.
