Warrior Winona’s 3rd annual CMM fundraiser secured 24 heart families with items to celebrate and commemorate within the PICU and beyond! Thanks to Winona’s steadfast community, these bags will be donated to as part of CMM’s Helping Heart Warrior’s initiative!

New year, new month, new miracles to be made.
CMM is growing and changing. Our mission will remain constant, but our approach and resources are being refined.

Stories are important to us. Inclusion and representation are crucial. The platform CMM holds in the lives of: the medically complex, the grieving, and the compassionate caretakers we assist- is something we will never take for granted.

In 2024, CMM is thinking small.

We are including more ✨small✨(woman-owned, mom-owned, like-missioned) businesses in our care packages and reenvisioning the ✨small✨-dark corners of insufficient consideration that medically complex families find themselves in- and bringing a ✨small✨ light of inspiration.

We are making small adjustments to our care package contents to bring the right voices- the small voices- to the families that need them most.

We are seeking ways to leave a small environmental footprint here on Earth, by forgoing ordering from- and shipping mass-quantity items (limiting waste, and potential loss.)

CMM strives to grow steadily, with ✨small✨ steps to ensure our values are executed properly. To maintain our projected path, CMM will be revising our box request process, our fundraising approach, and our strategy for growth.

Thank you to all the heart warrior families that stopped by and helped us make miracles and Mini Miracle t-shirts at the annual cardiac reunion!

Meeting tiny heroes who have received CMM care packages in the hospital and other first-time Miracle Makers was a complete honor!

Over 100 CMM Mini Miracle T-shirts were made today and in CMM fashion- 🩷 It was a good day to make a good day!

“I founded CMM just three months after Carmen’s death. I made promises to myself, to Carmen, to my community, and to God- as my heart hung in my chest. I clung to helping others and unintentionally quantified purpose against pain amongst my loss.

I buried myself within the bereaved community- full of women and men expending a story of life and death- most won't even fathom. I walked beside hundreds of families- strangers, friends, and family who entered and exited medical complexities, grey areas of death, highs and lows, heartbreak and miracles. I rode the rollercoaster of death over and over and over until I anticipated nothing more.

I found comfort in telling Carmen’s story and prided myself on holding each and every piece of her legacy.
Her story became my story and after five years, I came to the understanding that while I fought to heal by sharing her story- I suppressed my ability to trust and grow as I repeatedly relived chapters of her story- storing her past suffering in my mind, body, and soul.

For the last 6 months I have carried the burden of knowing CMM would not continue if I did not personally put down aspects of my current wants, fears, downfalls, and desires and pick up the call God originally entrusted to me.

With great peace and joy, I want to share with you that CMM is changing.

🔺Firstly, One Miraculous Night 2024 will not proceed at this time. Our team will instead focus our funds and energy on expanding our internal bandwidth of CMM to provide proper support to families.

🔺We will prioritize our requests and refine our mission to assist families moving through the weight of medically complex grey areas and grief journeys that honor both the parent and child.

🔺Beginning with myself, I will be stepping away from specific aspects of this organization to hold space for my story as well.

Thanks to our incredible community and remarkable board, CMM will continue in full operation. ❤️

“The Founder and her husband (the vice chair) went to school with my husband and many of my close friends. I was pregnant with my son James when they lost Carmen around 7 months old which brought me to feel closer to them even though I’d never physically met them. Carmen’s Miracle Makers had just gotten started when James (my son) was born 2 months prematurely and we were the very first family who received a Carmen Miracle Makers Box. It was like a little mini photo booth prop(s) in a box that they actually allowed through the NICU. They didn’t let much come through the NICU doors due to germs. It helped us live for each moment and each day and enjoy them as they happened and celebrate every one that in our case was really not promised. (I know they aren’t ever but more obvious while in the NICU.)”

In honor of Heart Month, we are featuring incredible organizations that support our and their families. Today's spotlight is for Carmen's Miracle Makers, inspired by and founded in honor of "Miracle" Carmen.

Carmen was born with congenital heart disease ( ) and complex genetic anomalies. She showed her family and all those she touched that miracles and joy can be found in the smallest moments of the day, even through impossible circumstances.

To honor Carmen and other heart warriors like her, Carmen’s Miracle Makers launched the Helping Heart Warriors initiative to provide “Patient care that rises above... When a tiny heart needs lots of love." Through the foundation, Carmen’s love continues to lift up our pediatric intensive care unit & pediatric cardiac intensive care unit patients and families — helping parents to bond with their babies and celebrate milestones.

We are so grateful for all they do for our patients and families! And through Carmen, we are inspired to find the good in every day.

Two years ago when we virtually met Winona’s family- they said “We want to do our part in helping the community, but, why reinvent the wheel!? We love what you are doing and we want to make sure our home hospital has access!”

The rest is history!

In two years, Winona’s Warriors have supported our ability to equip 70 families at ♥️
