Misty Wilson for Montgomery County Clerk
Republican Candidate for County Clerk of Montgomery County, Kansas.
As promised I listened to the forum this evening and these are the answers I would have given had I been able to attend.
1. What motivated you to run?
I chose to run for Montgomery County Clerk because I know I am qualified for the position. I know the job duties and responsibilities and with my experience I know I can run a successful office.
2. Have you researched the duties involved with being County Clerk?
Being in the position that I am, as Deputy Clerk I am privileged enough to already know most of the job duties not only on the clerk’s side, but on the election side as well.
3. What’s the first thing on your agenda if elected?
I want to look into storing more records electronically. I also want to sit down with my coworkers and brainstorm any changes they think would benefit the office as well as the citizens of Montgomery County. There is always room for improvement as long as we continue to follow statute.
4. If you had to cut your budget what area would you cut?
Our Election budget is extremely important so the only budget that I would look into and make any necessary cuts would be the budget for the clerks office. I would start by looking into where most of our spending is being done and find a way to utilize those funds more appropriately so that we can cut back on unnecessary spending.
5. What experience qualifies you for the position?
I currently work in the clerks office as Deputy Clerk. I started as a clerk 1 and worked my way up and because of that I know every job function in our office. I can sit down and do deeds, splits, combos and abatements. I can register you to vote. I know an election from start to finish. I can balance daily financials and pay invoices. I can work on the budgets and do our State Abstracts in July and November. Having these experiences is what qualifies me to be your County Clerk.
Please don’t forget to vote on August 6th!
My name is Misty Wilson and I am running for Montgomery County Clerk. I have lived in Montgomery County my whole life and I am proud to be raising my children here. I have a daughter, Emma and ornery twin boys, Eli and Hunter. They have been my biggest supports throughout this political journey.
I have been employed by Montgomery County for 11 years. During that time, I worked 5 years in the Auto Tag office and 6 years in the County Clerk’s office. I currently serve as Deputy Clerk, a position I have held for 3 1/2 years.
As Deputy Clerk I am second in charge and part of my job duties include; balancing the daily financials, assisting with budgets, and maintaining operations of the office in the Clerks absence. These responsibilities have provided me with the opportunity to acquire knowledge in the general function and process of the Clerk’s Office, as well as becoming proficient in utilizing the computer software programs.
To go along with those responsibilities the Clerk is also in charge of elections. I have worked through 7 elections and I believe in election integrity. With my training and experiences during past elections it will help me to continue to keep the process quick and efficient for Montgomery County voters.
In closing: I am the only candidate running who has 6 years of experience working in the Clerk’s Office and with elections. I would be able to run the office on day one. I know the day to day responsibilities and I have a great working relationship with my fellow coworkers, which would make for a smooth transition. I am willing to make any necessary changes that I see fit that will have a beneficial outcome not only for our office, but for the citizens of Montgomery County as well, as long we continue to follow state statute.
I have the knowledge, experience, and integrity to fulfill the Clerk’s position and I would appreciate your vote on August 6th.
Unfortunately, I am unable to attend tonight's forum at ICC West due to illness. However, I will be listening and plan to answer any questions asked to the County Clerk candidates.
