Here’s something bit different than a traditional oil portrait painting. This is my good old friend Matteo aka “Molecola”. I’ve seen a recent Facebook profile picture of him and I immediately thought that it would be perfect for a comic/illustration type of portrait. Really enjoyed the process starting with a HB pencil drawing and finished with ink pen and Copic markers.

One more figure study. Lots of complicated shapes and shadow because of her muscular body and the way the light is set. Maybe I've over rendered some areas, but overall fun to do and pleased with the result. H and 2B pencils on 6"x8" 200g Fabriano sketchpad
First post of 2024! Want to go back to the habit of drawing every day, even if it is just for 10 minutes! Drawing is the foundation of representational art and cannot be overlooked and it helps in every aspect of my work. Bit rusty as you can see in some areas, but that's one more reason to keep on practicing! Figure study, HB and 2B pencils on 6"x8" 200g Fabriano sketchpad.

I am happy to finally announce the launch of my website https://maurizioliberato.art where you can explore and also purchase my work.
Also, ever wondered about commission prices? Just have a look at the pricing page to have a clear understanding of the cost structure and find the perfect fit for your project. I think clear and transparent prices are very important when a customer is commissioning a piece of art, whether is a portrait a landscape or a still life. I’d love your feedback on the website, please have a look and let me know in the comments! 🎨
Here’s a quick ballpoint pen portrait of Jeff and Alli. We randomly met them in Florence one beautiful evening a while ago and we instantly clicked and spent the entire evening together, had dinner and drinks and lots of fun! I promised that I would paint a portrait for them, well that hasn’t happened yet (I’m so behind with my projects 😢), but the other day, I saw a picture of them in one of their many travels and–while travelling myself and passing through Barcelona–I thought that it could make a nice little sketch. , hope we’ll meet again one day and that you like this! 8x5 inches, ballpoint pen on paper.

I had painted a self portrait some time ago, but it got damaged in a house move. I thought that I would paint another one not only to replace it, but more to revisit and compare my evolution as an artist. Let me know what you think in the comments. Self Portrait - 11x9 oil on canvas board

Finally back to painting in 2023 after 1 and half year of not being able to for various reasons. Wanted to do a mini series of Florence cityscapes since I’ve been there a year ago and took some pictures. I’ve called the series Florence Impressions. Cityscapes is not a subject I’m very familiar with or particularly good at, so I’ve decided to improve on the subject with this series. Hope you’ll like it. Florence Impressions #1 – 10x8 oil on canvas board.
You will soon find a time lapse video for it on my YouTube channel https://youtube.com/
Here’s something different from a formal portrait. This small alla prima study is painted from a picture I took of a random guy sat outside a Liverpool pub drinking his Guinness. I loved the light, the pose, the atmosphere, so I decided to capture it by making a small painting out of it.
“The Guinness Drinker” 8x10 oil on canvas board
Marcus Rashford alla prima portrait. Here’s the 3rd and last of the Three Lions series, which will be auctioned soon to raise funds against racism. This time I’ve chosen a smiling picture as reference to signify positivity overcoming the negative comments he received. 10x12 oil on canvas board.
Btw this is definitely Marcus Rashford and not Maro Itoje! 🙄😂
Here’s Jadon Sancho alla prima portrait. This is the second portrait of the Three Lions series which, when completed with Marcus Rashford portrait, will be auctioned with all proceeds going to charity. 10x12 oil on canvas board.
Here’s the time-lapse of Bukayo Saka’s portrait. Hope you like it!
As an Italian living in the UK for many years I was really happy when Italy won the Euro 2020. But my happiness was quickly tarnished by the horrible racial abuse that some England players received from their own supporters. Also as an fan (I know, I know…🙄) I was so incensed by the treatment received by such a talented young lad that is Bukayo Saka that I decided to do something about it. I’ve started by painting his portrait and I will auction it (probably on eBay) along with the ones I am doing of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, all the proceeds will go to a charity. I haven’t chosen which one(s) yet, so please make any suggestions in the comments, it will be really helpful. Please share this post and watch this space for when the auction will be announced and support this initiative in any way you can.
Now to the arty stuff! This portrait was painted alla prima (in one session) in about 4 hours on a 10”x12” canvas board primed with 2 coats of white gesso to make it less absorbent. This is the first time I’ve painted a portrait in oil without any underdrawing, trying to understand and paint the light and shadow shapes first and then placing the features more precisely. I believe (together with many other artists) that this way of working gives you more painterly results, because the underdrawing can be a restriction in putting the paint down with confidence. You can also watch the process in the time-lapse video on my YouTube channel https://youtu.be/QBjVU7Eo75s

Red Vase - still life oil painting demo Alla prima oil painting of a red glass vase.Loved painting the coloured shadow, although quite challenging! Feel free to ask me in the comments anything abou...
"Red Vase" 10x12 Oil on canvas board. This is quite a simple still life, but I loved the reflections on the vase and its coloured shadow, difficult to make a good judgment when it came to identify its exact value and colour temperature.
