🚨 URGENT APPEAL FOR HELP! 🚨
Dear Friends and Animal Lovers,
We need your help now more than ever! 🐾 Our charity is facing a severe funding crisis, and we are at risk of having to close our doors! We've never been in such a position and we know it's not just us.
Every day, we receive messages about animals being - abandoned, surrendered, and neglected. We want to be there for every one of them, but we can't do it without your support.
How You Can Help:
💜 Donate: What you can
🐶 Share: Spread the word! Share this post with friends and family to help us reach more people.
🙏 Volunteer: Your time and skills are invaluable to us. Contact us to find out how you can help.
🐈 Foster: Even for 3 weeks will help save a life.
Our overheads come to $100,000 minimum per month. Our donation link is: https://kirstenszoo.com/donate/
We understand that times are tough, but if you can, please donate. Your support means the world to us and the animals in our care. We have over 60 animals in foster homes and we urgently need more fosters - even 3 weeks could save a life and get an unwanted animal into a safe haven.
With your help we can continue to give these innocent creatures the love, care and hopefully fosters and finally homes they desperately need and deserve.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. ❤🐾 Our donation link is: https://kirstenszoo.com/donate/

Ritzy needs your help!
Ritzy came to us as a baby puppy who was later diagnosed as having patella (knee cap) luxation. That meant she had to have surgery on both legs to allow her to grow and walk properly.
Although the road to recovery was challenging, witnessing Ritzy run again made it all worthwhile. However, with surgery costs of $50,000 we need your help!
Sharing a little more background of Ritzy, she arrived with her siblings as young puppies in 2022. The 'R' litter started off shy, but later opened up and found their forever homes, and now only Ritzy remains with us. Currently in a caring foster home, we are committed to providing the best care for Ritzy as well as all of our other dogs in need.
We cannot do this alone. Your support is important! Please consider contributing towards Ritzy's leg surgery. Any amount is greatly appreciated, and donations of $100 or more are tax-deductible. Thank you!

Ritzy brothers and sisters were rescued to the "dog rescue house" (HKDR) in 2022. Still the R squad of puppies at the time, everyone was pretty shy. Fortunately, a few of the children opened up quickly and successfully found adoptive families. Unfortunately, the last Ritzy is still waiting for a home, and she was diagnosed with "knee ectopic", requiring knee surgery on both feet. Ritzy is brave and strong in pain and is on good progress, but we still have difficulties paying for surgery. Ritzy’s surgery and medical costs are nearly $50,000, a number that adds to the burden of still taking care of hundreds of dogs. Hope everyone can donate to help pay for Ritzy's surgery while giving us room to help more dogs.
Slower hot Ritzy gradually builds self-confidence in the temporary family. We promise to provide the most appropriate care until Ritzy and the other dogs are not adopted, but we need your help and donations! Donations of $100 or more are tax deductible. Thank you everyone!

💗 Calling All DOG LOVERS! We Need Your Help! 💗
We are looking for dedicated people to join us in our mission to make a positive impact on the many abandoned animals in Hong Kong.
We cannot continue to save and rescue dogs unless we have available fosters. We do not have a shelter, we rely on you.
If you're interested in becoming a dog foster, please complete our Dog Foster form: www.kirstenszoo.com/foster-adopt/dog-foster
The dogs currently looking for fosters are Liam, Mimi, Callie, Ingrid, and Ivan. Can you help?

29/04/2024

What happens when our HKDR dogs die while still under our care?
HKDR's commitment to being a No-Kill Organisation means that no dog under our care will be euthanised unless there is a humane reason for doing so. Subsequently many of our dogs reach old age, and either die naturally or will be gently let go if suffering a non-treatable illness.
Since many of our staff, volunteers, or foster parents will have grown attached to the dogs over the years, we arrange a cremation to see them off on their final journey. However, like everything else, the cost of even a very basic, no-frills cremation for the dogs has been rising steadily, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to justify spending precious funds on those who are no longer living. The alternative to cremation is to literally throw the dogs into the designated rubbish collection points.
We have a Cremation Fund that staff and volunteers can donate to, but that has now run dry so we're faced with the dilemma of not being able to pay our final respects to the dogs that have meant so much to us. If you would be willing to donate to this fund please go to https://hongkongdogrescue.com/donate/one-off-donations/
And you will see the names of those dogs whose cremation you have contributed to every month, listed as our 𝑭𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝑫𝒐𝒈𝒔 on the monthly list of dogs homed.

A PLEA FOR $ HELP FROM STRAY PLANET SHELTER.

Meimei 🌟
… See more
🐾 Waves Planet raising February rent: I'm Meimei 🌟
Hello! I am Meimei, a little star on the wave planet. Today, I want to share my little story with you.
I listened to the volunteer brother and sister, and they suspected I might be a Slissar hybrid. My fur is so long and my ears are fluffy like a bear. I know I'm special. We have one of the few long-haired dogs on our planet, so I feel like a little princess all the time.
Sometimes, when volunteers call me, I decide if I should. I know I'm capricious, but I think these are all part of my personality. Sometimes I get close and go to Caesar, but sometimes I choose to sit quietly by myself.
I love our planet because this is my home. But we face a challenge: February rent.
Waves Planet pays $21,500 a month rent. We hope everyone can help and donate rent and continue to have a warm home in the new year for Planet Dogs ❤

WE ARE HURTING…
Late post today but it was end month admin.. the juggling of who and which service will or will not get paid.
The first and always priority is our *Kennel Manager Kathy
*1 paid staff support everyday
*Fuel expenses
*Chicken dogs food
*Rice
*Electricity
*Rent
*Medical expenses
*all other running obligations to follow🤷‍♀️
Its like running a business undercapitalised and the necessity to be prudent not knowing what will be next month’s income.
Its very stressful!
We are taking care of dogs, many!! ..200 in the shelter…20 Sai Kung otherwise neglected and HK China Border 32+
Its ongoing with new cases continuously being reported.
The work we do 7 days a week is from the heart. Beautiful innocent dogs, they dont choose to be born, they dont want to be homeless.
Our shelter is the loving safe home with good care and love and they are appreciative.
Veterinary services last month provided for 25 dogs at Village Vets Sai Kung and 7 surgical cases at Concordia Happy Valley.
Expenses:
Village Vets $68,425
Concordia $ 178,763.86
TOTAL: $247,188.86
That also is 32 transportation trips, fuel, tolls and time to clinics all with limited manpower.
What we so need is more committed daily volunteers, and volunteers who can drive our vehicles and the big most critical word “Donations”
We still continue to offer our Hands On Education to Corporate Companies, Schools, groups and individuals at our shelter by appointment. Inquiries and bookings via email: [email protected]
Please hear our call out for support and give us a volunteering hand and please please donate to the the veterinary expense burden of helping dogs to have a better life.

UPDATE: MUI MUI HIT & RUN SAI KUNG
The accident occurred on 9th August, 2023.
Poor Mui Mui has been hospitalized 2 months/8 days.
Yesterday she was discharged and brought to our shelter for continuing rehab to be under strict rest.
We need to check everyday, her toes, leg swelling or bleeding from the wound. She will go back to clinic for recheck in 7 days.
Mui Mui had surgery on 4th October to fuse the joint on her rear leg and external frame.
The wound also cultures bacteria but scant growth. So she is on antibiotics.
We appreciate all the excellent medical treatment provided to Mui Mui by Dr Elaine at Concordia Petcare Happy Valley which has saved her life and 🤞her leg. Thankyou Dr Elaine🙏🏼
Mui Mui would be better in foster care, for cleanliness and quietness. The shelter is not a restful place😖
WhatsApp Narelle Mob 9199.2340 if you have experience to care for Mui Mui and a quiet home to offer during her rehab.
Last month Sept, 2023 Mui Mui’s medical expenses mounted to $51,681.14
Her surgery costs will be billed end of month.
Again, we ask for donor support for Mui Mui.
At least now she has turned the corner medically and has the future looking brighter.
The vet said Mui Mui is a very co- operative patient.

This is not a happy post to share.
Last week we were contacted by a previous adopter who was concerned about a neighbour's Doberman. He had seen neglect and was courageous enough to approach the family and ask them to surrender him. Fortunately, the dog wasn't wanted and was handed over easily.
When Dobby arrived he was emaciated, starving, lethargic, and had the worst cases of jaundice we had ever witnessed in a dog (and we have seen a lot). As it turns out, his owner was force-feeding him alcohol and spirits to keep him sleepy and quiet. In case you aren't aware, dogs cannot metabolize alcohol and it is highly toxic to their systems.
We can imagine, as you look at these images of poor Dobby that are overcome with a similar feeling of anguish and anger to what we experienced. So we can also imagine that when you learn Dobby passed away just a few days after being rescued, never getting to know true health, happiness and love, you are also as equally distressed as we were.
We were very lucky to have his rescuer not only stand up for this dog and try and help but also donate towards Dobby's medical bills, which were an amount that would have severely impacted our account.
This week we are still taking in surrendered animals who have nowhere else to go, and we are trying hard to raise funds to ensure we can continue to help each of them get vaccinated, desexed and in good health. We are so sad about Dobby, but it's cases like his that remind us why we do what we do. We do it because there needs to be places for these helpless animals to go; but we can't do it without donations.
Can you spare a few extra dollars to help us pay our vet bills?
Here is a breakdown of some of the day-to-day costs we face:
$160 - heartworm test for one dog
$200 - one annual vaccination for one dog
$300 - 6 months of preventative heartworm meds for one dog
$1500 to $3000 - desexing surgery for one dog
Donations can be made directly to Lantau Vet Clinic FPS 104970728 - (make sure to note it's for VKB)
Other ways to donate? HSBC 571 107846 288 Okka Isabell Scherer, or find the PayMe QR code in the comments.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

PLEASE HELP WITH VERY LARGE VETERINARY BILL.

RESCUE - RIVER
It was during rains October, 2022 that we received a call to help a dog caught in the drain at Ho Chung.
With the help of SPCA he was rescued and brought to our shelter. We advertised him hoping he had and owner and be claimed but no response..
We named him River and took him for desex, vacs and given him preventative care . He is a nice adult dog .
Some months later he became unwell and open wounds started developing on his legs.
He has undergone many tests and various medications but the infection was resistant, needing vacuum, staples and it has been medically challenging and for lpoor River months of hospitalisation.
River Vet uodate:
He needs continued management.
The skin is also quite itchy so we are using stronger cream so he is less uncomfortable with the prolonged bandaging.
We are Hoping there will be a release date soon and he will be able to return back to our shelter for his ongoing care.

DONATIONS NEEDED FOR SPECIAL MEDICINE PLEASE.
Meet Sa, our beloved 7-year-old mongrel who has been a cherished resident of our shelter for over three years. Sa's heartwarming personality and toothy smile has captured the hearts of itors alike, making her a true shelter favorite. 🐶💕
However, Sa is facing a challenging health battle right now, and we need your support more than ever. Her kidneys are struggling, and we've been advised that she needs to begin a new treatment to reduce the stress on her kidneys. 🏥💔
Lanthanum is a vital treatment that can greatly improve S's quality of life, but it comes with a significant cost. We're committed to giving Sa the best possible care, and that's where you come in! 🙏
By making a donation today, you can help us provide Sa with the treatment she desperately needs. Every dollar counts and brings us one step closer to securing Sa's future and ensuring that she continues to spread love and joy to everyone around her. 💖

(Eng below) Do you remember the three-year wait for Sa? Sa has experienced dramatic changes in the past month and a half - after the last post, good people expressed interest in Sa, everyone was happy for Sa, thinking that she finally had her own home, but soon found out that she had terminal chronic kidney failure: the upper limit of normal kidney index is 160, Sa's index has risen to 800, 5 times the normal.
Sa was hospitalized for several days immediately after a blood test, and ultrasound revealed that her acne had lost its normal structure. Her appetite was worse, sometimes she couldn't help but eat, and she lost 5kg of weight... After careful consideration, we decided to let Sa go back to the familiar environment, Sa saw the familiar dog roommate and immediately regained her old life; we can't imagine the stubborn Sa, may only have 2-3 months to live...
During this time, Sa Sa has tested blood countless times, took several medicines and supplements every day, and the volunteers are also working hard to learn how to cut her skin, hoping to give Sa the best care. Unfortunately, the latest blood test, the index still appeared in red letters. The vet said we could try the Lanhanum Carbonate Tablet, but the price is 80 yuan for a single piece. Based on the weight and condition of Sa Sa, it costs nearly 10,000 yuan a month, which is undoubtedly an extra burden on our already heavy medical expenses...
Some might think charity takes animals to a vet clinic for free, but in most cases we all have to pay for medical care. No large or government-funded LAPs rely on everyone's donations to make every homeless animal enjoy the basic right to medical care. If you are willing to support Sa B's medical expenses, you can refer to the following donation methods

DONATIONS NEEDED! 🙏🙏🙏
Satu, an 18-month-old Maine Coone, was surrendered from a breeder in overall good health, however, he was born with inverted eyelids causing him painful, constant irritation, as his fur grows into his eyelids. Entropian surgery is needed on both of his upper and lower eyelids, to ensure this sweet and goofy gentle giant can live his many remaining years in comfort. The quotation for the surgery alone is HKD 7500. This doesn't include medications or any additional hospitalisation fees.
Jai Jai has been with VKB for only a few weeks but has been with a breeder for all 4 years of his life. He was recently surrendered, and even though we have seen it all, his condition made us pause. Jai Jai has rather severe deformations on his spine and his front left paw is undersized and growing out of his back. After close monitoring, this very sweet boy who loves cuddles, can walk and play, but is slowed down tremendously by the undersized paw, and it needs to be removed. The quotation for the removal is 7000, and we, along with the veterinary staff at NPV, believe it will improve his quality of life drastically.
Last year around this time, we started raising funds for Ivory, a Golden retriever puppy who needed corrective surgery to fix her two front paws which were misshapen and bent odd angles due to a birth defect. Thanks to our generous and lovely supporters, we were successful in raising the funds to have the surgeries and hospitalisation fee. Now, it's time to remove the plates in her legs, as her recovery is successful. The quotation for this (along with desexing her at the same time, we've held off as she was too young during the last surgery, and did not want to put her under anaesthetics knowing she had another upcoming surgery) is 12,000.
At VKB work tirelessly each and every day to help animals in need and to provide a safe and happy home for dogs who have nowhere else to go. VKB often receives surrendered dogs who are sick or in need of expensive treatments. The VKB volunteers do everything they can to make sure the animals in their care have what they need to be healthy, happy, and ready for adoption. The volunteers donate their time and energy to this cause, but they cannot be successful without the help of monetary donations.
Please help us to help them, VKB cannot do it without you!
We need at least HKD 27,000 to be able to help Satu, Jai Jai and Ivory live the comfortable lives they deserve. Any amount raised beyond this will contributed towards additional fees and future vaccinations and desexing fees for VKB rescue animals.
