The Art Playspace - Stephanie Krause - Teaching Artist
Fostering creativity, playfulness and joy in artmaking for ages 4 and up! Also making & selling art! With a healthy dose of nonsense thrown in.
I'm a book artist (making one-of-a-kind handmade books that I bind, write and illustrate), teaching artist & museum educator - finding joy in making things and helping others do the same! Since getting my masters in art education from RISD in 1997, I've been fortunate to teach in many museums, public and private schools, art centers, and privately. I can't fully access all the features of this page anymore (NOT because I was hacked - I wasn't - so *****please keep your 'contact this guy he will fix this and steal your identity in the process" posts to yourself, thankyouverymuch!!******) and facebook just throws up its hands and says yeah our back end is useless and we can't fix it - so I've made a NEW page - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61554842276764

What a joyful week in my artist residency in Mississippi! Even the tornado warning (terrifying for this NE gal) couldn't dampen the experience. https://www.facebook.com/100063691534857/posts/643139287819117/?app=fbl
More fun in Mistakes class... there are so many ways this project could have gone. Here is where it went. :)
I invite you to play my newly-invented game, Rabbit in a Hat! The kids and I were playing all night... It's kind of like 20 questions, except the thing you think of always has to be an animal wearing something, either an accessory or an item of clothing. You use your questions to figure out what the animal is, and what it's wearing. It's extremely entertaining 😆 If you end up playing around and want to sketch what you were picturing, I'd love to see it!
Even if you don't end up playing with anybody, I'd love to Hear what animal wearing something springs to mind for you :)
"Some Bread Saw," pen & ink & collage, 2019. This will be hanging in gallery 199 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art between June 6-19 as part of their employee show (open to the public for the first time ever)! Check out the details here:
https://www.metmuseum.org/exhibitions/listings/2022/art-work-artists-working-at-the-met
I highly recommend going to check out the whole show (and if you see my picture - send me a pic of you in front of it! I want in-the-wild sightings!). The caliber of work in prior years has always been awesome - there are some VERY talented artists working at The Met!
I am tickled pink that people can wander in and see my art hanging on the wall there. I wonder what people will think when they see it - it makes me laugh. Naturally :)
What do YOU think the bread saw??
All 3 of these were from the same creative prompt in mistakes class (the kids had as much fun as I did, but I didn't get pictures of any of their stuff, boo).
I love all 3 of these and can't figure out how to make them fit full size if I post more than one at a time, so you get snippets!
I'll be offering this kind of class for adults soon. I think adults need this even more than kids! There is nothing like the unfettered joy of creativity... and getting back in touch with that if you haven't accessed it for a while.
Why learn to make books with your students? Let me count the ways!! (And let me teach you how!)
I'm so excited to be a coach on poppd.co, a fabulous new website launching for teacher PDs that you can take from the comfort of your own home! I'll be doing classes on simple bookmaking in the classroom, starting with one of my favorites, single sheet books.
To take my PD workshop, DM me or go to joinpoppd.co to get notified when they officially launch on May 20!
100 day project, day 5! Spontaneous book, completely unplanned, 10-minute silliness.
Doing the 100-day project. Here's a video of me doing my drawing for Day 3. (Hint - it's not the hand. I draw on top of the hand)
